Converting a KYB "Factory shock" for Husky (linkage) to KTM (PDS)?

Hey guys...

So I was wondering, I have ordered the KYB Factory shock kit for my Husky FE. However the time to book next years bike is coming up and I have not been super happy with the Braketec clutch, so have been considering switching to KTM EXC.

How much work/is it even possible to convert a KYB shock made for linkage to a PDS shock?

Anything is possible, but not all things are advisable.

Besides clevis differences, overall length eye to eye, total travel of the shock, reservoir positioning etc etc, etc, etc, you'd have a non positional shock on one that needs such an internal system.

By that I mean the dual piston design on the PDS shocks. It was a needle that engaged another piston in the WP shocks for many years. Though, the first PDS'd model KTM sold, the 1997 Jackpiner 200 was fitted with an Ohlins shock.

Then, when - I assume - Ohlins did not retain / renew their patents on the '2nd piston into a cup' design, that they initially developed for the PDS system ( but they had the 'ITC' system - a much smaller version of the piston into a cup on the last of the Twin Shock Huskies well before that ), WP went to the 'Cup' system on later PDS shocks.

I so liked the PDS back ends with an Ohlins TTX shock, I converted my CRE rear end to such a design, but, I'm a Old, mostly Single Track riding, Offroader, not a SX rider............ Whistling

Aaah ok, I was hoping the difference would be the length of the piston basically Wink But no such luck. Thanks for the info!
