I'm starting to get into MMA more and more lately. It makes boxing seem like child's play. When it first started it was like a circus side show. Fat ass sumo wrestlers against scrawny little judo dudes and the like. Weird stuff.

Now it is a legitimate sport and those guys are amazing athletes. I never felt afraid to step into the boxing ring with anyone (for $1 million I'd let Tyson knock me out) but this MMA stuff is way different. Those guys suffer some serious injuries. Brain injuries, facial lacerations, and a variety of other things like broken bones, torn ligaments, etc. It's crazy shit.

Whenever I watch them I find myself wanting to know more about the lives of the fighters. What on Earth compels them to do something so violent for a career?

Were they physically, sexually, mentally abused as children and have all this pent up rage towards their victimizer? Or do they just happen to be good at fighting and over the years just continued doing what they were good at?

Why aren't they in prison yet? Have they served time in prison? Seems like anyone that is that violent would have a hard time avoiding incarceration.

I mean, think about it. They are great athletes but we're not talking about floor gymnastics here. These guys are borderline trying to KILL the other motherfucker with their bare hands, feet, elbows, and knees.

Or are they just like drug (i.e., adrenaline) addicts like us? One thing is for certain, the adrenaline rush they must feel before every fight makes any adrenaline rush we get from riding pale in comparison.

Bullpen you clearly know very little about the sport, the injuries and the competitors. I train MMA three times à week, I participated in competition once. The adrenaline rush is about the same as at a mx gate, the poaitive is that the MMA injuries are less severe and the harder you go the less you get injured, with MX I felt that the faster/harder I went, the greater risk of inhyrt. I wholeheartely recommend you to try MMA at a serious club!

JFS,

You're right. I know very little about MMA but I've been my fair share of dust ups and I can tell you that I get waaaay more of an adrenaline rush fighting than I ever do riding. When riding, I am in control (most of the time, hehe) but fighting is way different.

Also, in my experience I get injured in MX most often when I'm NOT riding my hardest. Of course, you can ride over your head and end up injured but my experience has been that most of my injuries / crashes happen when I'm not trying to go fast. Weird.

I will never get into MMA. I can guarantee you that. I'm way too big of a puss to do that stuff plus my old man knees and back would give out. I wouldn't make it through one workout much less a fight.

Plus, I have a short temper and am constantly having to talk myself into not punching people in the face. The last thing I need is to participate in a sport that makes me MORE likely to punch someone in the face.

Have you done time in prison yet? Wink

I like Dan... I hope he kicks his ass too.

I have a good story about meeting Dan ( I had no clue who he was). He came into my home depot to buy some plants. He was wearing an mma shirt. So while processing his will call paper work. I made small talk with him.

He has some serious cauliflower ears, so i'm thinking he might actually fight. So I asked him if he fought and he said yeah. So I asked if he had any specialty Dan said that he wrestled. I'm thinking cool, seems like a nice guy. I told him that if he applied for a credit card i'd give him 15% off his purchase of over 1,000 bucks worth of palms. He said sure and filled out the application.

He left the gross income blank so i asked him what his income was, he kinda shy'd away from answering and i told him just roughly, because it needed to be filled out. He came back with saying 250K. At this point i'm judging a book by its cover and thinking to myself bullshit. Then it was declined.

With that said he was very laid back and as nice of a guy as you'll ever meet. All the while I have NO clue that I'm talking to a two time Olympian wrestler and pride mma world champion and a guy that could of killed me with the thought of 1 strike..lol

After He walked away a work buddy walked over too me and said that guy is one bad mother fucker. And then told me who he was at which point i'm thinking " fuck im an idiot". I went home that night and spent two hrs on youtube watching him.

Since this meeting ive been an avid fan of mma and Hendo. He's one very nice bad ass dude...!

P.S Roosty he had an Oregon drivers license your neck of the woods..

Never done time. You train with eachother not against eachother. You wont feel the need to punch anyone after a training session.

Don't rule out Mir. Brock is a brute but Mir can be sneaky. How many arms has Mir broken? Its not impossible.

Yeah, screw bisping. He was such a prick on Ultimate Fighter...

I know this is old news, but anyone have an opinion on Kimbo being in the new ultimate fighter?

MMA is way more violent and much safer then boxing, football... And the way that is possible is if you really watch UFC/MMA you'll see them jump in very quick too stop a fight. Don't get me wrong there is carnage and blood. but they dont get hit in the head for 12 rounds or get they're knee twisted backward. Submissions and quick stoppage helps actually keep the sport safe.

The brain damage and deaths in boxing IMO come from how many times a guy takes a punch too the head on the edge of being knocked out and allowed to continue fighting, because he can continue.

You dont see many injuries as far as bone/ligaments go because guys will tap out. everyone will get submitted at some point or knocked out, except only one that i know of, Lyotta Machida, but trust me he will get caught its just a matter of time.

And for as violent as these guys are, its quite the opposite in reguards to they're self controll and temperment. they're sportsmanship is second too none..! The respect they have after competion is unbelievable. Which comes with most all of they're training. Pro football players are pussies compared to most of these guys. and are much more likely to get into trouble.

This is just the beggining for MMA....

Seriously Bullpen He was very nice mello dude.

No I was full of shit for thinking he couldnt make that kinda money. There's a casino just 5 minutes from the house thats always had tough man competitions "soboba casino", I figured him to be just some guy that fought but probably just a local tough guy..lol, Not a two time Greco roman Olympian/ MMA world champ.. lol

Oh and yeah GREAT ASS, I'd bang him.... YEEEEEHHHAAAWWWWWW

My opinion of Kimbo is he's a hack and will get knocked the fuck out in the UFC. Seriously the guy took a fall in a fight to bolster ratings and try to help save elite xc. anyone that would throw a sanctioned sporting event is a piece of shit..

Clutchy my man, read this and tell my how you can root for that POS Lesnar and want GSP to get KO'd?

and unfortunately, yes i think Mir will be overwhelmed by that big gorillas power, but i want Mir to rip his arm or leg off.

I really cant stand that meathead.

GSP on the other hand, is a pure class act. Alves will be his biggest test, and he (GSP) is coming in w/ and elbow injury.

Hendo, one of the coolest dudes in the game, Gawd i hope he shuts Bispigs mouth.

No No No... Scottie not a fan of Brock.

Who I root for and who I'd bet on are 2 different things thats all. GSP is a class act. But not really a fan. Thats a fight I wont really be rooting for either, just looking foward to the clash. Just have a feeling Alves will catch GSP. Would love too see Mir win again. and will be rooting for it, just wouldnt bet on it...lol

Bispigs.....NICE

Not fussing by any means. Just figured they would be looking for sites like this. They are already making plenty of money off of PPV at $44.95.
