I buy stuff on Vital Bazaar occasionally. I almost got scammed when I posted looking for Cone Valve AER forks. Some forum posts alerted me that the guy I was emailing with was a scammer.

I would highly recommend requiring a picture of the product along with a something showing the current date to verify the seller actually has the product and isn't just using Google Image Search to send you pictures. It won't eliminate all scams, but it will have verify the sellers actually have the goods.

Always look up sellers and avoid sellers without a long history of posting/etc.

We call them timestamps on reddit. Proof of ownership. Honestly, everyone should be doing this (or at least requesting it), it's to easy not to.. Like you said, it'll at least verify their in possession.
