I can't wait till they put him in the ground, all of this coverage is ridiculous. Even if none of the child charges were ever brought to light, I just don't understand all the hoopla.

Lots of parallels to Elvis - except Elvis really WAS a pedophile.

Elvis started "dating" Priscilla when she was 14.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The Presleys began dating in 1959 when Priscilla was 14 and Elvis was 24. They had first met in Germany where Elvis was serving in the army. They moved in together after Priscilla graduated high school in 1963. Right before Christmas in 1966, Elvis proposed. They were married in 1967."

Dave, it really is nutty on the LA news. I imagine and hope you do not get the half of what we get. Turned on the TV this morning and EVERY STINKING channel is "All about Jackson." I know he was the King of Pop, but was he the King of the US? That is how they are addressing this. It's almost comical, when he was in Santa Maria there were a handful of people outside the court. Some for some against.

He dies and everyone is: "Oh Michael was a saint, he was taken too soon. The poor children he helped." Whistling

This morning I had a hell of time finding something besides MJ coverage, and I'm down here in the Deep South.

You CA residents have my sympathy.

I am so tired of the coverage.

Ok. He died. Big deal.

Just another musician living a fucked up lifestlye. Wasn't the first, won't be the last.

I don't care how many soundtracks people associate with their life. Big deal.

I hate coverage of any "celebrity" dying because I just don't care about any of them whether it is Caradine, Malden or Jackson. None of them did a damn thing personally for me and I have no personal ties to either of them outside of enjoying a movie or song that they have done.

A movie or song does not bring me close enough to a PERSON to grieve for them no matter how much I like the song. Enjoying their music, concert, movie or acting does not make me closer to the performer any more than admiring the Eiffel Tower makes me close to Alexandre Gustave Eiffel.

Ugh. The only good thing is that now that he is dead I only have to hear about the guy once a year and then slowly less than that.

I am not bitter and I doubt the majority of people crying ever got any help or had any type of personal relationship with him as a person. His music may have brought them joy and insight and the loss of the talent is something to mourn to an extent but no person should be worshiped because of a few songs. RIP is all that needs to be said and then move on.

People are worshiping a person who they knew nothing about other than his music and whatever clips they saw on TV. The majority of them are basing their entire opinion on whatever press clippings or sound bytes they want to support an opinion they made of someone they never met.

I never met him so I could care less that he is dead. He hasn't put out anything new in a long time so I am not missing his music.

I enjoyed his music and listened to Man in the Mirror over and over when it came out. But that is as close as I got to the person so there is no reason for me to grieve at all.

I enjoyed Nirvana too but didn't give two shits when Kurt Cobain blew his head off and didn't give a rats ass about Princess Di when she died running from the Paparazi. Big deal. I never met them.

I do not comprehend why anyone outside of those who personally met and interacted with them would care that they are dead.

I'll save my grief for those who I knew and actually spent time with and not celebrities who people only know from TMZ. I'll mourn more for Bonepony than I will any celebrity ever. But then again... I actually know Bonepony... err... Nacho Daddy.

I too am one of those people who doesn't get the emotional attachment people get with celebrities, as if they know them in person.

Even if I was in the LA area, I would not want to go to the service or stand/sit somewhere and watch it with a bunch of strangers feigning grief over a person I or they never really knew.

I do not deny a fascination with all of this, not by his death, but by the public and media reaction to it.

At the same time, there is no denying MJ's impact on the music industry and how his music is in all of us and will be for all of our lives. MJ's death is not just another celebrity death, this is the loss of musical royalty, like Elvis...and yes, it is the same, if not greater.

Within that, you have the mess and train wreck that was his personal life and that just makes the whole thing more fascinating.

I don't flip out and cry when celebrities die, and I don't understand why people do, but I do believe this, there is NO OTHER CELEBRITY LIVING TODAY that could cause this level of hysteria, emotion and media attention...no one

I wasn't alive then so obviously I didn't have the opportunity to care. However, they were assassinated for the work they were doing. Work I respect (except JFK keeping us in Vietnam).

I respect their work just like I respect MJ's music.

But seriously, if any President or world leader dies for any reason I won't cry and be stupid about it.

I will mourn the loss of their work just as mourning the loss of MJ's talent is appropriate.

I will mourn the loss the same as I did the 5 people who were murdered near my house recently because it is sad that people lose someone close to them for no good reason.

But I won't do more than say "RIP." I definitely won't cry and go into convulsions because someone I never met dies. I won't go into hysterics and cry in front of a TV like the stupid redneck women in the break room are doing right now. Many of them too young to ever hear Jackson's music live and I doubt they ever owned a record.

The world is bigger than one person and the teachings or talent can persuade or motivate but should not be the deciding factor of what life to live.

People that believe a person is bigger than anything else are just sheep and are led around by sound bytes and popularity contests.

BTW, nice on calling me a kook... I never called you any names or anything (and won't).

I don't understand why MJ needs to be worshipped and will never worship any person.

You are free to do what you will and worship what you feel is appropriate. As long as there is not non-stop coverage about it I won't give a shit because it won't interfere with my day.

I never understood this kind of fanaticism. My Sister asked me one time if I would have liked to have met Jimi Hendrix. (The greatest guitar player of all time). I said no. Not really. If he wanted to meet me I would have wanted to find out why but that's about it.

I think Paul Mccartney might come close or even more. One thing that makes it more sensational is that MJ went early, had he lived out a long life, the funeral would have been James Brown size. Same with Elvis, had he passed late in life there might not ever be be a Graceland. I with you guys on the emo stuff for someone you never knew, that said it is sad when celebs pass.

Post a reply to: If you thought the MJ funeral was gonna be crazy....
