Barry Sheene was one of my favorite Racers back in the day.
I believe I even liked him more than Kenny Roberts even though Kenny was American but very brash and cocky.
Barry was the opposite and loved to enjoy Life chase girls and joke around

Times were much different including safety. In his prime 42 Racers lost their Life and 24 in James Hunts Formula 1 career.
Before the final race in Japan in appalling conditions in order to calm his nerves James disappeared in one of the garages to get a BJ from a Geisshi girl..... Grinning

At the 17 min mark is Barry's horrendous crash at Daytona.

I like to cast this stuff to the TV.

This one covers the Daytona event when they were on SCREAMING 750CC 2 Strokes, Barry's crash at 170 mph and Gary Nixon tries to race with two broken bones.

When Men were Men and not one skinny jean man bun dude? in sight! Grinning

7 weeks later with Rods and Pins throughout his body, Barry races again! 😳

Both legends.

If you can find it a good watch is 'superbikes - when Britain ruled the world' about the hey day of the superbike world championship. Really entertaining, some absolute characters involved.

As a kid I went to a road bike race here in Australia and Barry was there spectating, they asked him to do a lap for the fans. In shorts t-shirt and a helmet he did 4th fastest qualifying time.... saw all his bikes at the museum on Hamilton island so many cool bikes there.

Haha, great Barry story and totally believable! Grinning

Legends like Barry are very rare. He was the first and only guy I knew that had his own helicopter to get to the races and oh yea he married a Model.Cool

Joel Robert fits the mold.

As well as Tim Richmond.

(Back when nascar was legit)

My brother’s buddy was in the pit crew for Tim Richmond. He told me “all the stories you hear about Tim…. are true.”

In 1983 I sneaked into a moto GP (wasn't a brand name yet) pits with help from a friend who was racing the Superbike support race. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera, cause I saw some incredible sights.

I can't remember how it came about but I ended up standing in a circle with 5 or 6 half-drunks, talking shit with Barry Sheene. He was wandering around with his leathers pulled down to his waist, socializing and enjoying himself .  Watch any Guy Ritchie movie and you'll get the idea what the banter was like 🤣

Then in 1987 I saw the NASCAR race at Riverside Raceway in SoCal that was Tim Richmond's last win. He only raced 6 more times and died 2 years later. See pics below, no. 25.

I watched James Hunt race F1 GPs half a dozen times and  saw him in the pits once, and heard the stories of quickies with pitboard girls in the porta-cans before races 🤣

Today, cigarette and booze sponsorships and pitboard girls are banned from F1 because the little poofs whose daddies buy their seats to play videogames...  are offended.

F1 ended in the 1990s, really.

The good old days....  glad I got to live it.
