I decided to check off a bucket list item this year and race Daytona amateur sx, anybody else on here racing it or have raved it? I wanted to race 30b/c but was all sold out so I am on standby for an open spot but am signed up for the 30+ open class, question I have is there a qualifier to make the main in the 30 open class? If I don’t make the main which is quite possible I’ll be a little pissed off 🤣. Hope to see some vital members lined up next to me.

I'm in the same boat as you, however, I'm signed up for both classes and have been since the week sign up opened.

I originally was going to just do b/c. I've rode twice since 2019 when I rode 5 times and it was 2016 before that. B/c is one of few classes that take more entries than there are gates, therefore, there will be qualifiers and lcq. +30 I believe only takes enough to fill the gate which makes the heat race just for gate pick.

My wife said "what happens if you fall in the first turn in b/c and the same in the lcq. That would mean no main on Monday.

Thinking that way, I signed up for the regular plus 30 with the thought process that no matter what I should be racing a main on Monday. I'll likely get smoked in both, but like you, totally just a bucket list thing.

Looks like 30 B/C had 42 last year and 30 Vet had 28. (i still had a photo on my phone of last years race order and numbers). Some classes have 34, one gate and to the main, some have max of 68, with LCQ and top 34 to the main.

I am not signed up in any of you all's class but if you see me around you, definitely say hi. I will be in the Masters 50 and Senior 40 class for sure and I am on stand by for Senior 45. Bike is RMZ450 and number 411.

Good luck to you all

I have raced the am Daytona race twice. First time in 2010 for the inaugural event and then again in 2014. Both times raced the open C class. First time on a 250f and in 2014 on a 450. In 2010 the event wasnt nearly as big. In 2014 I wasn’t even close to making the main. Believe I got like 11th in my LCQ. Crashes and way outta bike shape as living in Ohio makes it difficult to ride in winter. Especially since I was in college full time and working part time but even so I probably wouldn’t of made it. Those guys were just on a different level then me. It was still an awesome experience and I really wanna go back and give it a go again. I’m 27 now and have 2 kids with another on the way so maybe when they get a little older they will wanna race it with me.

I am an old guy and I like many long term riders had a bucket list of races I wanted to do over those years. I was lucky and made all but one of them. I came to terms that I would in most races not be good enough to win, but always looked forward to doing them the same.
I would suggest you find a class to run at any of these events and then have a ball doing the event. These are life altering events to take part in and you may just find out that you are better than what you expected, if you go into them from the standpoint of looking to have fun and not how you think you will finish. Life is just too short to not do some of the bucket list items while you are young enough. Remember that once this day is over, you will never be able to do it again.
Go for it, enjoy it and by all means have fun!
