First 50 other than a pw for us. 2014 really clean little bike. Went to get it and cranked 2nd kick for the owner. Loaded it up got home went to crank it. Turned the fuel on kicked it and the kick start didn’t return. Kicked a lot of times never cranked. Cut fuel off tried some more. Tried some more with the choke on. Guy told me. Fuel off pick the rear up hold the front brake wide open throttle and should crank. No luck for me. Put a lighter to the plug since I don’t have a fresh one. Still no go. Bike ran good when I bought it. I didn’t see if the kickstart returned or not for the guy I bought it from. Anyone have advise on cranking this thing or if the kickstart should return? Also the oil injection is removed.

I'm assuming it has a good spark on the plug, they come pretty rich (the old ones were even worse) so they do foul plugs. First, make sure you're trying to start it on a stand, the clutch drag with the rear wheel on the ground will make it hard to start. Second, try starting with the choke on and don't give it any throttle. My grandsons won't start cold if you give it any throttle. One other problem these things have issues with the the carb vent lines getting plugged and preventing them from starting, so double check the vent lines.

As for the kickstarter, that has to be the return spring. Not much else would prevent it from coming back up.

You sure it had oil injection, if it's a SX it shouldn't have had it. The only ones that had oil injection would have been the minis.

Good luck.

I guess I should have added that it is a mini. I pulled the plug and it was pretty black but I did try to use a lighter to burn everything off since I don’t have any spares yet. I’ll get some this afternoon. Should I bring starting it with the gas off? Already got a heavy duty Kickstarter spring ordered. I knew these little 50’s were a pain but atleast thought I could crank one.

Ha, I just got what I believed to be a good deal on a 2013 mini. Ran nice, could tell the PO hated it. I could see it needed a little TLC. paid 1400. and extra 1700 later, my kid finally got to ride it. Deep breaths.

I have heard about the kickstart gears. Heard 2 guys talking about how they swear you can have the bad one and a new one in each hand and not be able to tell the difference.

The exhaust was ice cold on this one. Second kick the guy had it running. 4 hours later I get home with it and nothing. Hopefully it’s a $20 dollar spring and 3 dollar plug and will be running. Once I get it cranked I’ll probably go ahead and rebuild the top end. I was hoping I could avoid the whole mini 50 age but the pw needs some relief. Plus I feel bad for my kid on what Yamaha calls suspension on the pw.
