My buddy has an old 1993 RM125 that runs great all day long. But when you stop and put it in neutral, it runs and revs like you just started the bike and it's cold with the choke on. Put it in gear and go, and it runs perfect again. Weirdest thing I've seen in a while.
Any thoughts?

Does sound like a possible air leak.

Start the bike and let it idle....then squirt some WD40...little bit by little bit..... from the carb to cylinder......and around the base of the cylinder.

If it revs up like you twisted the throttle and drops back down...... your air leak is where you just squirted.
