Wow, that must have been some serious antics so let’s see what Brabec can respond with!

here’s how they sit going into the last stage. Let’s go Skyler hold onto that top 5!

No Ragrets. Did Sam clean him out perhaps?

Okay I have done some digging. KTM claimed that Bort purposely missed the re-fueling as some sort of tactic. They have since apologized

I believe Walkner accused Joan of taking a flop for the team. Brabec was pretty irritated at the accusation. It made no sense, because obviously Honda would way rather have three bikes in the top 3 or 4 vs 2.

Sounds like Walkner later apologized.

The team definately did not want Joan Barreda to miss a fuel stop on purpose. It sounds like Joan was suffering from a concussion two days prior and simply made a mental error. Ricky was riding with him into the speed zone/fuel stop, and Joan just kept riding thru without stopping.

Ricky is in a great position for tomorrow. It's raining hard at the bivouc tonight, hopefully the special stage tomorrow will be damp with no dust.

Here's a great Dakar stage re-cap podcast by Jesse Ziegler (Cycle News) and Quinn Cody (KTM group).
The stage 11 podcast explains the race status really well:

Honda: Hey Joan... You know this race you really want to win, and that you're almost winning... Can you not do that, so that errr wellll errrr we don't have a reason but we think it'll piss off KTM

Joan: sure thing... I'll be laughing the whole time I'm wrecking my chances of winning this thing, it'll will be so funny

British humor is THE BEST! I can see a Benny Hill or Monty Python skit portraying this...Grinning

Thanks for the laughs. I needed it.

Eh....I was thinking it had to have been something more than that. Glad it wasn't. This has been a battle, can't wait to 'watch' it play out for one more day!

Honestly, sucks for Barreda, the dude is a Dakar legend in my mind....how can you not be with 27 (28?) stage wins?

Skyler F'n Howes, one more day my man, bring it home! He's in a great spot to hold his top 5, awesome.

No dust is good, Ricky can uncork and not be worried about it holding him up.

One more day.

I say it ends:
1. Big Kev
2. Ricky Bobby
3. Sandman Sam

I so hope Skyler can hang on to that top 5...and hopefully turn that into a factory Honda ride next year? (here's to hoping...)

Him being on Honda makes so much sense to me....

- This is Barreda's last year so they have an open spot
- He could then train with Ricky more, making them both better
- JCR already has the 'infrastructure' to keep the Rally bike running, Honda knows they can be trusted with it
- Having two team riders based close together in the same country would make things logistically easier on a lot of fronts
- He has no personal sponsors that would conflict (energy drinks etc.)

Come on Big Red! What's the hold up? From my arm chair quarterback seat, the check should be in the mail!

I agree! It makes perfect sense...my only concern is "politics"...someone with more pull knows someone that could also take it...but if its results based, for all the reasons you mentioned, Skyler makes the most sense.

Hopefully, Skyler will receive multiple "inquiries" after this Dakar. He's definately proved to be a top rally racer. And a polite guy with a great attitude!

I’ve become a big fan of this guy the last 2 weeks. Love his attitude and hard charging but effortless style.

I’ll admit, I was pretty bitter when he spanked my boys at the ISDE on the big 5hundy...can’t help but like him now!

He’s still got an outside shot at a podium like I predicted earlier 😁

congrats Honda and Benavides

Newsflashes - 15/01 10:06 [GMT +3] - Moto
The first one-two finish for Honda since 1987

Before today, it was as long ago as in 1987 when Honda last achieved a final one-two finish on the Dakar. That year, Cyril Neveu claimed the crown ahead of Edi Orioli. Franco Picco, who is still racing today, finished fourth. It is a historic Dakar for the constructor with the winged logo!

Well, that was a hell of a race! Pumped for Benavides!

2 Americans in the top 5, who woulda thought!? Great job boys, especially Skyler, so awesome to see his all-in commitment be rewarded.

My thoughts go out to Pierre Cherpins family and friends, simply horrible. The Dakar while being one of the greatest spectacles in sport is also a mean bitch. I guess if the stakes weren't so high, it probably wouldn't have the allure that it does...

Other notable things to me:

- Santolino had a great ride on the Sherco, good for him and them.
- Great ride by Svitko too, this guy is pretty underrated, truly a Dakar legend.
- I expected more out of Quintanilla, he didn't have a horrible ride by any means but wasn't really a factor either.
- Every Factory Yamaha DNFs, this is not a good look. I know Shorty wasn't their fault, but at this point it sure seems like he wouldn't have made it anyway. Probably time for them to put some resources in to building a rally specific bike if they want to run with HRC and the KTM Group. Seems like converting the WR just isn't gonna cut it anymore.

Final Top 10 for the bikes:

Shorty's gotta be wondering if he made the right choice in switching, that's for sure. Yamaha's have always been known as super reliable, but Dakar is a completely different animal. I think you're spot-on about them really needing to take a hard look at building a rally-specific bike...

I'm really hoping to see some really good support for Skyler; he's more than proven himself as a solid asset to any factory level team. Super nice, humble kid as well...

Signature look bro! When you are bad ass enough to win the Dakar after breaking your nose on the Nav Tower halfway through....you can rock whatever haircut you want!!!!! HA!

Also, it's worth noting that young American Austin Jones got 2nd place in the SSV class. Nice work kid.

Quite the journey Ricky has been on, he was a complete underdog when he started and now he looks absolutely pissed to only get second. Impressive.
