Sorry to derail the thread but have you or anyone on here with vans figured out replacement tires for the sprinter or transits? Seems like the research I’m doing, that they require a very high load rating (121? For my transit) and there is some possible issues with tire shops denying all terrain tire installs. Something about most of the AT tires available are for a much lower load rating (106-111) and it’s a liability deal.

Any input or recommendations from the board? I have. 148” lwb transit stock height and tires but in need of some newer and better rubber.

Yes, they do require a higher load rated tire. Toyo makes the Open Country A/T in the higher range, so does Falken on the Wildpeak AT3.... I've had both on the Transit. Mine started out as a 10 Passenger van, thus the high load rating. Get the right load range and save yourself a headache....

An E load range or 10 ply tire is what they require. I have Nitto Terra Grapplers and they have been awesome for more than 50K.

Are those 245/75r16? I think that’s the route I’m taking. Any rubbing or fender mods to make it work? Looks great!

I've been running Falken Wild Peak AT3W. I just bought my second set because I like them so much. the traction in the rain is amazing for an AT tire. They're lasting me about 60k miles on my transit, size LT245/70/17 119/116S.

245/70-17 Toyo Open Country. I saw 215's Transit ^ and copied the wheels and size tires. You need to do an easy trim in front of the wheel on the plastic bumper cover and also hammer down the pinch weld behind the front wheel..both are super easy...

Nice looking van. Is that the low roof or medium height. Also - whats the inside look like?

It’s the medium roof, long wheel base. It’s been a slow work in progress but here are a few of the inside.

Here’s a test fit with my bike in my 148” MR 12 passenger. I haven’t gotten my chocks in yet and this picture still has seating for 7 installed. There is A Lot if room in these things

Looks great. Is the mid roof height tall enough for your needs (it looks it). Thanks for the pics.

I might be stealing your ramp on the door idea! I really need to swap out my hinge-less for a bi-fold.

Been working on my van the last week. Found an easy and pretty cheap idea to cover the windows I hope. Went to Lowe’s and grabbed 48”x25’ of Reflectix for the windows. Going to put some black fabric from JoAnn’s on the back side and use the foil to reflect the sun at the track and blackout for the ride to the trail. Was $40 for the roll.

Sorry for the lack of updates! Here's a video going over the first stages of the pressure washer setup!

And some more pictures. Keep in mind nothing you're seeing is final. Electrical was more or less only mocked up. And I realized I made a stupid mistake, I need a shutoff valve between the accumulator and pressure washer! Should have another update soon, making progress on the wall panels and l-track installation.

SLAPAHO and 215 - love your Transit 250's guys. The wheel/tire combo looks great. Two questions for you though...

1 - why did you decide to go all the way up to 245/70 on the 17 inchers, and thus have to trim the bumper? Couldn't you have just gone with a slightly smaller sidewall and avoided that but still have the general look you were going for?

2 - how "off" is your speedometer with this setup? I've read that you can't recalibrate the Ford transit speedo after adding bigger wheels/tires so you just have to live with it being somewhat inaccurate.

Thanks in advance! My 2020 Transit 250 Crew 148wb Medium Roof order went in this week. Looking to add an after market wheel setup similar to yours.

I went with 245/75r6 on my transit. They were the only size and tire that were larger than stock that would fit without any trimming and that also had the correct load rating. A lot of vanlife people go with all kinds of tires but I wanted to use the right load/speed rating and the tire shop also said they wouldn’t have even mounted ones that weren’t correct if I bought them. I even had to convince them to mount the 245’s because they were all convinced there was no way they would fit when they put the new tire next to the van.

Ah, got ya. Thanks. I thought you both trimmed your bumper but perhaps it was just SLAPAHO.

Appreciate the info. I'll take a look at wheel/tire options.

I wanted bigger wheels and tires mainly just for aesthetics. the trimming wasnt much either. As far as my speedo, its anywhere from 4-6 mph depending on how fast im going. freeway speeds its off about 5-6 mph.
