Hell no! I'm only a little gay, not full-on. I tried watching that dancing show one night and will never watch it again. I got sucked into the American Idol thing around the 2nd or 3rd season after mocking the rest of the family for watching it on season 1. Another one I've gotten sucked into lately is that Celebrity Apprentice but I've only seen the last couple of episodes. That's it, none other than those two.

My daughter picked up Electric Guitar back in Nov and she rocks! We have her do a 60 minute lesson once a week. Are you trying to learn accoustic or elec?? Elec is easier because you dont have to press so hard and your fingers wont get so sore. She went out and bought a second guitar. Her sister who was palying piano has now started and is doing pretty well. Are you taking lessons are doing self-taught?

Good lineup. Wink Are you taking lessons, learning from a book, learning from tabs, or the internet? I'm sure you've seen those Justin videos right? His stuff might be a little advanced for someone just starting but maybe not. I would think those videos would be the next best thing to having another guitar player in the room to show you things. By the look of your song lineup can I assume you're starting with power chords/barre chords? kdxman (and others) would be a great source of info too.

I go to youtube and type in "easy to learn songs on the guitar" so far I've butcherd "no woman no cry" and part of a Jack Johnson song. I'm pretty much a train wreck. If I was a guitar teacher and I was the student, I would refund the money.

Learn some of the basic chords and get a chord book and learn those in other positions. Common meeting ground of most players is the blues. Learn different keys and then learn some pentatonic scales. You'll think you have gone to heaven.

Dean, learn slow blues 1,4, 5 chords and play pentatonic minor (5 notes) against for lead. You (or Clapton) can take a 3 note solo (with your own vibrato...HUGE IMPORTANCE!) and make it mean something. Go to blues jams and learn rhythm and then take a lead or two when you feel like it.


You'll rock in no time.

Go to the music store and buy a tab and chord book of Beatles music. They sell one that has basically every single Beatle song in it.

Learn the intro to Day Tripper. Then after you have that down learn the chords to the song. Dont move on to the next song until you can play that shit perfectly in line with the record.

Keep learning beatles tunes and you will eventually know every chord you will ever need to play for rock and blues. Then you can branch out from there.



If you think playing electric guitar is hard, you should get one of these things.



I just got one last week. Eight floor pedals, a volume pedal, 5 knee levers, and two hands. I thought I was gonna jump all over this thing like I did with guitar when I was first starting out - but it is a mother fucker to learn. I'm getting on my way though. I can just about play all the lines to "Teach Your Children".

So far it is much more frustrating, but alot more rewarding for me than playing regular guitar.

I'm in the same boat. Bought a guitar a couple of years ago. Figured some of the basics out . I use power tab software so I can listen to the tab, simplify them for a beginner, easily slow down the tempo and shift strings up or down for a more comfortable position. Great stuff, that software.

I still suck, but, and this is what keeps me doing it, I *am* improving. Very slowly, but I screw up way less than I did before and pick up things a lot more quickly than I did. I rarely learn a whole song, just nail down the licks I like.

Some things I've felt good playing all or part of: Thin Lizzy-Cowboy Song. Hells Bells. Enter Sandman. Santana-Europa. In memory of elizabeth reed. Whipping Post. The Ocean. Whole Lotta Love. Boston. Quite a few more. I butcher most of them, but it's still fun to crank the gain up on the amp and lay down some power chords.

Funny you mention that, I have a neighbor kid that is one of those "naturals" on guitar. He came over and showed me a couple of things and started in on a Slayer song. He says, do you recognize it? I said no, what is it? He said Slayer, I said wtf is Slayer? Then I asked if he knew any Stones songs, had him listen to Angie one time and he played the whole song after only hearing it once. Lil fugger....

Yeah that shit is all backwards. I've tried a few times but I just cant get used to it. Frets are too close together even for my skinny fingers.
