What's really hard is watching the quality of the posts here drop, the instant the season's over.
This ain't fight club.
As far as BL's cry about what everyone posts on here...he is right. Riding at 100% for 15 to 20 minutes on and SX track is not easy. I think the level of conditioning of the current crop of riders in both classes is very high. Does it match the '80's? Don't know.
But, I watch the guys out there today and see how much energy is expended to ride these tracks and see them charge the whole race, including the lappers. Yes, they are in shape.
Is it as tough as the outdoors? IMO, no.
Pit Row
Not trying to discount your opinion or start anything but just hafta ask: have you raced scrambles in summer?
Its not to fresh regergitating the sames takes over and over. If Stewart went outdoors only, youd flip that switch in a second.
You bagged Reed two years ago for going SX only, can you say hypocrit?
Personally I have done both, and I would take SX only over nationals any day of the week.
Same goes with running a 3-hour scramble. It is NOT that easy to line up and go full-tilt in tight woods for 3 hours. It takes lots of training to get your body used to hours & hours of abuse and not get fatigued. Offroad cant just relax & rest if you want, especially if its a technical track with tight woods, steep drops, rocky creek beds, logs, etc, etc. You just cant take a break and always fighting the terrain, so it requires a different fitness. I can remember when Kiedrowski first tried offroad racing, he admitted upfront he had no clue it was that hard to run 3-hours WFO and it took him a while to adapt.
However, MX is almost double the time...per moto, in the heat and humidity and on gnarly breaking bumps everywhere.
Now to be fair, I'm sure James could handle a 3 hour trail ride pretty easily, but out there, trying to win the Pro class, he'd likely struggle
jeez, GuyB, are we supposed to sing Kumbaya until Glen Helen?
