Enduro's and Dual Sports should be considered as well, these days many of them are 95% the same and you can tune them to suit your needs.

"Q: DOES THE 2019 CRF450 HANDLE BETTER THAN THE 2018 MODEL?
A: No. As much as we liked the 2019 CRF450 at turn-in, we were troubled by the way it felt on the rest of the track. When a brand focuses on turn-in, as Suzuki and Honda did, they give up straight-line stability. On tight and twisty tracks, smooth tracks with jumps or with slower riders, the instability is imperceptible. But, on rough, fast, nasty tracks, especially with a rider who is trying to get every ounce of performance out of the engine, the frame is out of its element. The front end glances off bumps. The head shakes enough to convince mortal men to slow down, and nothing on the chassis seems to work in unison. Worse yet, finding the proper front/rear balance is very difficult because a change to one end seriously affects the other end. We chased setup at every race only to have it feel good in moto one and terrible in moto two.
Finding good balance between the front and rear can become a full-time job. It is very hard to find a comfortable setting with the 2017–2019 chassis. This has a lot to do with the Honda engineers’ selection of the Showa fork valving, chassis rigidity, shock rising rate, turn-at-all-costs front-end geometry and stinkbug stance. "
Engine was plenty powerful.
Bike was very stable at high speeds and while cornering, but it was not “nimble”. No complaints about the suspension.
Coming from mainly ktm’s and going back to a 19 350 sxf, the ktm is much more willing to change directions at any moment. I enjoy that aspect for the tighter tracks/trails I often ride. The 450 is just too much bike for my normal riding.
If my riding was primarily fast open desert then I would take the Honda over the ktm 350.
Things I didn’t like - I felt the fit & finish was low. I had 4 bolts strip out in the 40 hours I put on mine. (Never happened once on the past 10+ Bikes I’ve owned)
Starter button wires came out of the button housing once during a minor tip over.
Clutch cover will look like shit within 10 hours.
Air filter is a pain in the ass to replace with the battery in the way.
Chain slider sucks, wears out after like 25 hours.
Seemed to go through rear brake pads every 10 hours.
Feels heavy on/off the stand.
