I Just Bought My New YZ450f 2010. It's My First 450 I had a Honda 250 and have ridden plenty of dirtbikes before. But I'm Feeling Weird About the gearing and I don't know maybe if my Clutch is slipping.???. The guy I bought it from has it set up for full blown race. It has a 50 tooth Sproket on it. Just weird because I hit the gas shift hit the gas shift when I'm in 5th it feels just as short as 3rd and winds out just as quick. Some one help me out and let me know!

What size is the countershaft sprocket?
If it's a 12 than you have a 4.16 ratio. ( this is very low gearing)
If it's a 13 then you have a 3.84 ratio. ( this is below normal gearing)
If it's a 14 then you have a 3.57 ratio. ( this is higher gearing than stock)

I would suggest about a 13/48 tooth set up for your bike as a starting point, but I would also make sure the clutch is adjusted correctly and not slipping. If slipping, it can be caused by using the wrong oil, weak springs or worn plates.

So It's normal with The 50 tooth to wind out gears really quick.

THat would be based on the combination of the countershaft sprocket and rear sprocket numbers, but yes in general a 50 tooth rear sprocket will wind out quicker than a 48 tooth sprocket. Keep in mind that a single tooth size change on the countershaft sprocket is about the same as a three tooth change on the rear sprocket.

Change out your counter shaft sprocket to a 14 tooth or go down to a 47 on the rear sprocket. You will be back in the ball park then.
RE: Oil... Make sure the oil you use is wet clutch rated. Many good oils on the market. Make sure the lower have of the oil rating seal is blank or empty.

Hi what is a good gear ratio to reduce the intitial hit on low end for 2018 yz450F? I am currently running stock gear ratio 13 on the countershaft and 48 on the rear.

You will not be able to gear that right off idle hit out of that bike. The only way to do that is to remap it to help it any.
