AGN--- Funny stuff, 40+ replies and 40 completely different opinions lol. In the end ,only YOU know what works best for you, your family and situation. It appears you've done good research. If you have interest in my daughters loaded 2017 XLR, then PM me . I know the PM feature here is a bit sketchy, so let me know if you sent one and if I don''t get it , ill post my cell for you on here. I'll give you their contact info then, she knows a lot more about it than I do, although I will assure you that you won't find a cleaner or "less used " pre-owned one. Let me know...

I’m going to check out the RV show next week and see what happens from there. Your daughters camper sounds like a great deal but I’m concerned it’s going to be too much money for me. I have a hard $25k limit.
I'll talk to them this week as well. I know once they get something in their head they like to move quickly, usually too quickly for my tastes, lol. But i dont think its completely out of the question to get u really close to that number. And that would be a screaming deal for you ,or whoever . Remember, it already has the generator (which none of them come with stock, and was over 5k upgrade) and is already setup for bikes in the garage, and I believe they even bolted a new toolbox setup back there. Not sure on that though. Good luck this weekend and be wary of pushy salespeople Whistling

Thanks, I’m gonna need it. Fortunately my wife is a little better at dealing with salesmen. I have a hard time putting up with their BS and lies. I try to be as understanding as possible since I know it’s their job to sell these units and their livelihood depends on selling stuff. But at the same time I hate liars ha. I’ve always been the type of person who would pay a little more if I’m talking to a straight shooter who doesn’t lie. I have extensive training in reading deceptive people and deal with liars every day so that in itself makes it more difficult to talk to most salesmen. Oh well, I’m just hoping I get to see some nice toy haulers so I can see the different options out there. I’m worried I will show up and see one or two and that’s all.

In the first 12 minutes he completely covers the math behind towing. A worthwhile 12 minutes.

Do you have any pics with your bikes inside you could share? What do you tow it with? Can you pull your bikes up into the kitchen area so you can keep them inside while you sleep?

Forest River seems to have the best selection as far as toy haulers.

Do you have the ability to store it in a covered area?

Look into rvshare.com see if you can rent one or two. See what features you need & some you could love without.

Rvshare is just people like us renting them out. I did it for Unadilla every year until we bought ours.

I tow it with a 2015 Ford f-150 2.7 eco boost V6, it tows it like a champ power wise fully loaded 3 bikes, water and all the stuff needed for a race weekend. Trailer is very lite, only issue is in the wind , thats when I wish I had a 1 ton pick cause its much more sturdy or stiff spring wise, I also have air bags on truck which is nice . Yes I put one bike up in the kitchen area and the other 2 behind it on the sides. I could probably fit a 4th mini bike in the middle in back if needed. You could also possible put 2 bikes in the front part as well. I have some of those Risk Racing strapless bike carriers that I use and that saves lots of space due to not having tie downs getting in the way. You ban leave bikes in trailer if you want at night cause the bedroom is in the front. I like to leave bikes outside at night locked down like fort knox so I can really enjoy all of my trailer at night though. Im surprising very happy with trailer for the price and what I get.

I started with a bumper pull and now have a 5th wheel. Both bought new, XLR had to go back to factory, gray water tank leaked into underbelly. My fuzion is getting the slide rebuilt next month, it’s rotted out, less then year old. Yes they are all junk, buy local, you will need your dealer. If you do not buy local dealers will not give you the time of day.

Put a stabilizer on it you'll never have wind issues again ,they're noisy but they work really well and keep the trailer straight. I just use the cheap one from Harbor Freight. I think it was $35 it's good up to 6000 pounds you can put two on if you're heavier. I'm over 6000 lbs and one works fine for me.

I could afford a lot more but this does everything I needed. It’s 2 years old and the previous owner took a 6k bath. It has a pull down full size queen and 2 pullout fulls. I can pull down the queen and one bed out with 2 bike inside of it.

I am surprised so many wives and girlfriends are cool with having the dirt bikes taking up literally half of the inside of the trailer with these small toy haulers. Your gals are more understanding than mine I guess!! Of course we have 5 kids, so there is that....

Like others have said, don't get something too heavy for your truck, though that may be a bigger issue out West with all of the mountains you have to negotiate. If your hauling it around the hills of Central PA it may not be as big a deal. I can't tell you how many times I have seen brand new trucks pulled over on the side of road broken down with their 45 foot 5th wheel in tow on some steep mountain grade. Whatever you decide I am sure you will have a great time!

Took me 10 months of arguing with my insurance company to total mine after the Hurricane Harvey floods but they finally agreed that what they were proposing for a repair was unrealistic and stupid. It was insured for up to the amount I originally paid for it 9 years prior. They valued it at $2300.00 less than that but had to pay me taxes as well. I didn’t even try to negotiate...lol, ended up 6 grand over original purchase. No way would I have been able to sell it for more than half that with a flood claim against it. Loved the thing but never enough time to use it all that much. Doubt I’ll ever find another one for that good of a deal either. Who else has ever gotten out of a RV after 9 years and made money?Smile

They are all junk, have been down that road a few times with new ones. Either buy a ATC or a VRV and spend the coin or buy a really good extended warranty and expect it to be back at the shop where you got it. So buy close to home. Have had 2 fun finders and have had one xlr27hfs and now we are on to just camping in a enclosed trailer. Much easier, cheaper and no problems...

I hate to be negative Nancy as well but you're absolutely right. They are all built on an assembly line and junked together as fast as they can crank em out. Half the new ones we'd get in leaked from the factory and trust me water in an RV of any kind is your enemy. If you do get one make sure it stays under some time of awning and preferably out of the weather altogether. Inspect that roof like a mad man my friend. You really get a better product with the Livin Lite brand though.
Bought all three of mine new, had major issues with each one. If i were to ever do it again i would make sure i had a place to store one that is covered. Bare min a carport style building. I would only be looking at the work and play toy haulers with a one piece aluminum roof since i had issues with bubbles on all three of my regular toyhaulers. Seriously look at the ATC models. They are a ton more but guess what you get what you pay for.

I don’t have a garage large enough. I would certainly buy a cover for it. Or some type of car port.

With a toy hauler you need to protect from water intrusion. The rear ramp door is susceptible to leaks. They fill with water and rot the door from the inside. Lippert is the main and maybe only manufacture of them. They cost about $5k and it's another $3k to ship (these were prices I was given from a dealer in Shreveport). What really sucks is you have to be a dealer to order them.

On new....never accept less than 30% off of MSRP....never.
Do not buy an extended warranty. Put the money in the bank and save for repairs.
Expect to have some issues, that is common.
Do not expect to get good service at a dealership...+ they keep them for weeks.
Find a good "mobile rv" tech that can come to your location and fix on site.
I would not be concerned with storing bikes outside my camper...they are not that difficult to secure.

Cover your tires when storing....not to keep them clean but to protect from UV rays...they are tire killers.
Replace your tires at least every 4 years...no matter what...invest in the best tires you can afford.

Your dealer was trying to rip you a knew one then.

I had my rear ramp door replaced completely last June on my 2013 KZ MXT302. Its a full size ramp door. Someone drove on it at a race and cracked it. Didn't stop to tell us either. I called insurance and got it paid for. But they were dragging along saying they couldn't find a place to order it from. I called KZ directly ordered it over the phone and got it shipped to my local camper repair place. Then insurance reimbursed me.

It was like $1800 for the door. $250 for truck freight. And the dealer charged me like $550 to install it with new thicker weather stripping to help seal it up. It did take 4-5 weeks to be delivered because there was only 1 company that made them.

Yeah, I had a feeling, that's one reason I left. The other being they asked me to leave. We had a disagreement on pricing of a used B&W Companion. They wanted a $1k for that. When I mentioned I could buy a new one shipped to my door, they just said "then go buy one online, just don't come here for a warranty claim". They sold the new for $1600. When I said I could buy 2 for that, they asked me to leave.

Out of curiosity, has anyone had their rubber roof replaced? I have a 27ft trailer. They estimated that at around $5k as well. They also wanted another $1300-$1400 for an awning fabric replacement.

On an additional note, be sure you watch/hear the generator run before you own it. The Onan generator is prone to carburetor issues and they aren't cheap. I bought mine on Amazon for $220 and replaced it myself. I mention this because the first time I had to do it, I had only owned it for a week. The warranty claim was denied, they determined it was neglect on my part. I thought I heard it at the dealer but my dad said it was the unit next to mine.

I think to summarize, buy something with and aluminum frame,no wood, and relatively light. You can't go wrong with ATC, VRV, and Livin Lite. Everything else is wood, and wood =problems. We stepped into a Gray Wolf toyhauler and you could literally feel the floor flex under your feet. No thanks. The floor in my LL Quicksilver is extruded Aluminum deck. Think Uhaul truck floor.

Here's one like mine for $26,500. I would bet you can get them down to your 25k number:
2017 24x8.5FBA

It a bit far from you, but most places can ship these fairly economically.

The rv industry is really f’d up. My family has been in the biz 50 years. I currently run an rv park. The industry is self regulated by the rvia which is in the pockets of all the manufacturers. This allows them to build crap. Unfortunately, buyers buy based on floorplan and price and not on quality. Todays rvs usually develop major leaks by 10 years. They are built like crap. Generally you need to stay away from cheap rvs. Make sure you check the build first and floorplan last. Look under it, in cabs, read reviews, etc. with any new rv you will be back to dealer twice by yiur first trip. There is no qc, they do not test anything, so make sure you check every system before you take delivery. I have campers show up all the time and have no elec, no hot water, air etc on their first trip. Makes for a long pissed off weekend when you just spent $40k. The best rv’s have a single piece wall, not 2x2 wood in between. In a toy hauler metal frame is a must. At least under garage. Do yourself a favor and buy a used model for $25. You wont find anything new worth buying for that. If you have to buy new, rv’s have a huge markup. So make an offer and leave. They will call you back. Also if you know the model, call dealers all over your region for best price. It will vary $10k. And finally most importantly, whatever you get, make sure you caulk alot. Once a year, and before first use, you need to crawl all over it using a good caulk, trailers all die an early death from leaks. The cheap ones usually dont make it through the payment cycle. Check camperfinds.com, craigs, fb for used.

Agreed the RV industry is f'ed up and I cant stand dealing with them on anything other than just purchasing my toy hauler and getting the hell out of there. Like others said if you wanted them to repair something it would take months and cost you a fortune, best thing you can do is learn how to maintain it yourself and keep your RV out of the sun when not in use, the sun is the biggest threat to your RV, over time it destroys it by drying out your roof and seals therefor causing leaks and water damage. I park mine under a industrial style carport, metal bars bolted into cement and a very thick canopy roof. Im on my third trailer and didn't learn that at on the first go around.

I guess I've been lucky, mine is 13 years old sits out in the sun and I never had a leak that I know of.
