Don't listen to people who tell you to buy a 125 _2 stroke or 250f. Get a TTR / XR / KLX 150ish. Learn the basics and technique on these. Save the extra money for when you are mentally / physically ready to step up to a full blown race style bike. Last thing you want to do is get a 125 or 250f ... panic ..... whiskey throttle .... loop out or worse ..... and out of the sport before you began.

Be patient and look for good deal, you won't lose a penny on any of these used bikes.

I don't agree at all. He'll get something like that and it'll be too small right from the start. Great bike if you're under 5'-2". He would also never get a chance to experience any sort of a track with one of those bikes. Better to grow and learn on something that you can actually use 3 months down the road. He wouldn't have to worry about selling the first one either.....as he can learn every single thing there is to know on a 125. Proper riding technique , bike maintence , ect.....you can't get any more simple then a 125 as an entry level bike. Tons of people use them as learning bikes.
Aren't you the one who's always asking everyone else's opinion of which bike, pipe, car to own?

Get an older yz426. Bit less power than a 450 and smooooth off the bottom. Available for a good price too with famous Yamaha reliability

Hmm? Damn....I've never even seen one of those bikes. I had no idea they slapped that motor into a full sized frame. Interesting.
I second the vote for a CRF150 RB. Not sure if it’s in the price range . Super fun bike though has enough power for an adult although it’s not sprung for one. But the B for big wheel. It has the same frame as the 150R may have a longer swing arm for the larger rear wheel though.

Not the same size as a full size bike. It is a mini bike with 2” bigger wheels on it. Unless you know something I don’t ??
