Right so mainly aimed at the UK boys (and close Europeans) on here but more votes wont hurt from across the pond Wink

Info for who don't know what Mepal is:

Mepal was one of the best Sand tracks we had in the UK, and if it reopened still would be today. Mepal opened 28 days over winter from November to March from 2012 - 2016. So with the England always having shit weather there would always be Mepal open as the track could take a battering.

Council shut it down in 2016 and claimed they would turn it into a 'Nature Park'.

Want to see what there nature park looks like?

So yeah 2 years later it's still abandoned and nothing has been done by the council. So the chap who ran the track back then is trying to reopen it and trying to speak to the council.

From a recent news report about trying to get the track up and running again.
“It is neglected, has drug paraphernalia, signs of illegal shooting and a burnt out car as well as track marks of quad and bikes on the site."

Use to have riders such as Herlings, Nicholls, Carl Nunn, Conrad Mewse, Ben Watson and pretty much every other pro in the UK, plus the slow people like me Cool who would ride there.

The petition managed to get over 1000 people to sign in less than 24 hours.
Currently just more than 2.5k at the moment. I don't think there is any set number, but just as many as possible.

Video of Mewse riding here.

And what type of friend would I be if i didn't include a mates video Grinning

I love how shortsighted the UK is towards motorsports in general!

If it's not traditional it doesn't get a look in. How much trouble have all the Rugby, football and cricket players caused from post game drinking alone let alone. Yes MX is noisy and doesn't look pretty (to the untrained eye) but it's a solid family sport that is misunderstood. Bring back Mepal!!!

MX tracks don't have to be ugly though. If you plant grass around the edges and upkeep the roads and structures around the track, they can actually look pretty nice. I remember some tracks even planted flowers on the sides of jumps and such to brighten it up.

But... those things cost money and unfortunately, the moeny these places do (or don't have) is poured back in to equipment and maintenance.

No money at all in the UK, it's an eltist sport that is losing tracks hand over fist due to di*khead councils not seeing the value in it. They also blanket Racers with "wheelieboyz" and toe rags that ride them illegally. This doesn't help.....sad state of affairs.
But i agree with you 100% it can be done very professionally and doesn't have to be an ugly mudhole.

I really enjoyed riding at Mepal, it was one of the only true sand tracks in the UK and although it was extremely hard work it was always great fun riding there. It would be cool if it could open again. I've already signed the petition but I'm not very optimistic

As much as the whole world of enthusiasts of the sport signing a petition will make the signature numbers look good, in order for a local authority to take one seriously they expect the people signing to be local.

They’ll disregard signatures from overseas and even try to disregard those from elsewhere in the country.

I think it was 5 people who complained about the noise and got it closed down. 5 people.

Also where they will probably not count the further away countries, but riders from Europe have rode the track multiple times so they have no reason not to count those votes.

But i do see where your coming from like RG1 said not much will come from this but hopefully it will motivate the chap trying to get it up and going again a lot more.

Yeah its for sure being used still. Must just be a private track now like most other tracks in the UK.
