Damn people are eager to argue.

Good clip, yeah RC doing that triple step-up at one minute gave me goose bumps. Looks so easy. But we know if James didn't go for it, it might have been something to consider!

all i could think about, was how uninspiring those commentators were to listen to..... i'd like to think if they looked back that they'd try and put a bit more ooomph into it, seeing how rarely it occurred

cool clip though

Was RC still on a 2-stroke in '03 to KW being on the 4-stroke? Just asking.

Stephon, yes RC was riding a smoker. Kdub beat RC at Washougal 1-1 on the RM250.

I watched windham beat RC at glen helen on the 4 stroke but RC kicked his ass in the second moto on the smoker...and RC took the overall for the event.

I watched 2007 budds creek the other night...RC getting his 100th outdoor win while James won the first moto and led most of the 2nd. Awesome race!

I was at that race. Without question the most insane race I've seen in person. The speed and precision was incredible. That was when RC took a rock in the goggles and threw 'em in the mechanics area.

It's amazing how much their careers have differed from that point. I wonder how much Kdub's major injury had to do with it - I'd think it had to have a major effect. No matter, I'm a big Windham fan.

Its too bad Ricky didn't stick around for a few more years. Those two racing together is the best a fan can ask for.

BTW ...anyone have video of the 1990 Charlotte SX with Stanton and Bradshaw? One of my favorite races.

Yup, Windham beat RC, and Reynard almost beat him, but nobody pushed Ricky like James did, and that's the difference.
I think it was a good thing Ricky retired when he did. With the way he and James pushed one another, someone would have gotten seriously hurt or even killed. And no, I don't think James caused Ricky to retire, I believe the direction James and Ricky and were taking the sport caused Ricky to retire.

RC and James battling at Washougal was insane.....neither one of them could have possibly gone any quicker.

I'll have to agree with you on the SX, but IMO Ricky would have been slightly faster outdoors on the 125, as he was on the big bikes.

James was the best on a 125 that there has ever been. He was absolutely insane.

I think RC got out at the right time. He had nothing to prove to anyone, it would of been great to see RC go over to Europe and do the World Championships for a year though.
Didn't Reed straight up beat RC in the last 6 races of the 2003 SX championship (AMA) maybe my memory is as short as some of the other goldfishes on this site

RC raced a CR250 in 2003.

Windham beat RC at Washougal and Unadilla, i think it was back to back, 4 moto's in a row.

And for the person that said about RC retiring..i think the birth of his twins was the ultimate deciding factor in RC's decision to retire.

One thing RC did that James never was able to was beat Stefan Everts.

I know most will argue James did the TEAM thing, and he didn't have to beat Everts....If James could have beat Everts that day, he would have. It was Everts' day, and he went out in style.

That's a tough one Scott. I don't know if Stewart could have beat Everts or not. It's a similar gray area like Chad beating Ricky in the last 6 in a row in SX '03. Could Ricky have won some of them? Or did he do the "Championship thing"? Do you also think if Ricky could have beat Chad he would have?

We also can't forget that Ricky is 6 years older than James. Ricky had "been there, done that" while James was just finding his way in the big class. Yeah, maybe James was a small factor in the timing of Ricky retiring, but I think his own family, Ernesto's accident and being ready to move on were the more major reasons.

Without James, I don't think we would have seen the best that Ricky had to offer in SX and even outdoors too. In my opinion beating Ricky in '05-'07 was a much larger feat than in the years prior.

What everyone seems to not realize is that Stewart had yet reached his prime while RC was in his prime when they raced each other. There is a big difference in there ages. What makes Stewart awesome IMO is he was not a pussy like Kdub and challenged RC and fought him till he crashed or won a moto. One thing I do know is that Stewart is faster at 22 than what RC was. Also, What Stewart did to the field last yr in the outdoors was was more impressive than what RC did in his 2 undefeated seasons.
