I have that picture blown up and framed on my office wall, signed by both Weinert and Tony D.

When we did the fund raiser for David Bailey it was an auction item presented by RacerX. It hangs proudly.

"As I understand it, Menan is out of it now. It is true that he is an NESC legend."

Mennan is An NESC legend. I believe he is the only guy to win all 4 class size expert titles in the same year. His record should be safe as the 100 expert class was dropped years ago. If I'm not mistaken? He rode the ACR vintage race at Southwick this past August.

Hyatt Cycle Park was in Pompano Beach Florida. Nice sand track with this huge jump on the side. It got really rough, I remember Kippy Pierce was riding hard and his foot peg broke off, he put his foot on the engine case and still won the moto!
Hiatt was on Powerline road, between Sample and Hillsboro, right next to the dump.
Since then, that dump has expanded eastward all the way to Powerline Road, and technically Hiatt is now about 75 feet below a garbage mountain

Speaking of Hyatt ...I remember one year (must have been around 1976) it was real dusty and Vernon Moore had a great idea to spray the track with used oil (can you imagine the trouble you'd get in today) to control the dust. It may have been a great idea...had it not rained and made the track look more like a river.
I had just got my Polish Parts (anyone remember Jim Zimtowski A.K.A. Polack ...his shop being in Lake Worth) 1976 1/2 Maico 250 with white plastic. I think that might have been one of my first races on this bike. By the time I was done, a heavy layer of crude oil stuck to the bike, me, my gear. I don't think the white plastic ever looked the same.
Then to make matters worse we had a Gold Cup race that took us to Burnt Hickory in Atlanta. Rained all day and never got over 50 degrees. Georgia clay three foot deep.
Between the oil at Hyatt and the Georgia clay from Burnt Hickory those old sand cast Maico cases never would come clean.

Ahhh, the good old days.

Bert
See my picture in my profile?

Just below my name?

That was from that race and that day, and I crashed in a tarry greasy puddle and that shit went all in my helmet.

I got my first trophy that day.

Got all my hair cut off the next.

My brother brought down a few old albums, I'll take some photos of some pics.

Have one picture of the Polack replacing a Maico clutch on the ground...as was one of his specialties

Polack had the entire shop in that truck

My Uncle (Dave Kimmey) who along with my Father did all those moto articles in County Wheels for all those years is very sick with cancer and will pass away soon

Here's another from Hyatt Cycle Park.

That's me #48 and I believe that's Kieth Oelrich on the Suzuki to my left.

I think this was one of Kieths first rides on a 250. I also raced with Ron. Here's one of Ron and I from the same era.
I'd go over and run with Mark Longwell at his home in Loxahatchee.
Doug Longwell always had a battle with Kieth at the time on those super minis. I swear those had to be some expensive bikes for their time. Hey, what was the mechanic (English dude) that worked on Ron's and Kieths bikes out of Motocross South?

I do a lot of riding in Richloam when it's not hunting season. I sold my tagged 05 KTM 525 because I didn't put enough miles on it. I ended up buying a Suzuki DRZ 400 and a KLR 650 so depending on how dirty I want to get I'll take one of those. Here's a picture from this years Devils Creek ride in Richloam...not me..LOL

Are you talking about the long red haired English speaking mechanic? I have an old mx paper in my garage somewhere and it has his name and picture. I believe his first name was John, but I'll try to look that up tomorrow.

Yup, that would be the one.
I need to set aside some time to scan a bunch of pictures and old NML news reports in for posting.

His name is John Mark Davis. I am looking at a picture of him standing next to my Mr 50 at Hyatt Cycle Park probably around 1976-77. Merry Christmas everybody!!!!

I thought that mechanic helped open another shop after MX South in Davie and I remember a story I heard about that mechanic cleaning out that shop and leaving town one night? Not sure if anyone else remembers that, but I think it put the shop out of business, which I can't remember the name and may have the story all messed up?

He worked at MCS for a bit as well, but yes, he stole a whole bunch of shit and money from some shop he was working at or managing and split back to Scotland.

I think it was MCS he ripped off, but it wasn't enough to close it, but it did hurt them badly

My Dad knew all the details, I'll see if he still remembers
