Alright boys and girls just picked this “weapon” (as described by the former owner) up and about to commence on a frame up rebuild of her, was planning on making a 2005 JS259 Replica but... was basically told don’t bother SO... might just get her looking as stock as possible for the time being, will try and document this build as much as possible because I can feel there is going to be ALOT of funky stuff up with this bike..... ENJOY!

I did get it fairly cheap for an 05, over here they mostly go for anywhere between 3-7k, hell I even seen a BRAND NEW 2007 that only got started every few weeks to make sure things were still good sell for 10k. So yeah $2,200 I cant really complain although it’s going to cost that + alot more to make it look new again...

Where are you located? I just did my 06. Rocky Mountain has some good prices on oem parts.

Still have an 05 in the garage! These bikes are awesome, but the forks are trash. They suck, but the motor is amazing!

Australia, yeah, I think I will try to get as much stuff as possible online, dealers here are absolutely useless and prices are horrible

I've heard the forks aren't the best BUT luckily I know a former (factory) suspension guy that knows a bit about these KYB forks...

That'll definitely help you out then, haha! We ended up taking the forks and top clamp off of our 06 kx450 and throwing them on the kx250. Made a huge difference. We had a problem with the bottom left fork lug coming loose on the stock forks. Had a few different suspension guys tighten them but it just kept loosening up. Thankfully the motor on our 06 450 blew up so we stole the forks haha

I wouldn't mind doing a front end swap off maybe my 2016 250F but obviously would have to modify steering stop among other things

Does swapping the front end help out with predictability of the turning? I have Factory Connection valves in the forks but it still does seems to have a mind of its own. It seems like its always pushing or the front will just dive. The Dunlop mx3 seems to help a little

Man.... that’s a bummer. Can’t believe they mounted the silencer with wire and cut the silencer...

Okay A few things changed in 05-06. They changed the crank design in 06 so it uses a primary drive nut instead of the cir-clip. They also changed the clutch basket and possibly the inner clutch cover. You can convert it to 2006+ design with your 05 motor using those parts.

In 06 they also changed the rear shock by adding high speed/low speed compression adjuster. 4 stroke shock won't work you'll need a kx250 two stroke specific 2006+ shock. They updated the front and rear rotor design (front made larger and they changed the front hub to match the new rotor.

Besides that 05-07 are the same motor and chassis. Everything 06+ will bolt right onto the 05 with some thought put into it.

My 06 still has a cir clip for the primary drive

So... What can I do about the cases that have been smashed? Priced a new set today and since I work at a dealer they would cost me about $720AUD
Which is not too bad but still a lot of bread

I was told, to replicate a 2005 SR250 just like James Stewart’s would cost upwards of about 20k let alone the time finding the parts..

im building a kx125 right now and im not doing a replica build, but im at around $10kusd, and havent touched the motor or suspension yet. if you do a full build it aint gonna be cheap no matter how u do it.

it did, I started it in the shed and let it idle for a few minutes, it sounded horrible, I didn't even test ride it, luckily I didn't... it would of been so dangerous with the state it was in

Will an 06 subframe fit? Different part #’s but you are saying 06+ is the same

i believe it will. they have the same bodywork so im pretty sure its the same subframe
