My rear brake master cylinder is coated and it's showing wear from my boot at 15 hours of ride time.

Thank you, I think I'll go with anodising after all.

Anodizing is for sure more appropriate for certain parts. However, cases, clutch covers etc wear just as easy from boot rub and dragging in the dirt. The only thing that is super resistant to rub wear is akadizing Hinson does. That's why there covers generally only show wear on the corners and edges.

Anodizing cast aluminum parts which include all the parts on our bikes, hubs, cases, calipers, brake hangers etc.... all will show a frosty look. Not a nice bright color if you were doing a Red for example. If your using blacks and browns it's ok in the frosty dull matte finish. It's just the nature of the process, and you just need to be aware of what to expect. It's not like fresh machined billet aluminum when anodized.

Also some of the coatings on these components before Jan 17 were a less durable product. There is now a much more wear resistant coating in black, grey that I have used on parts with much better wear life. I haven't heard from any customers that it wore yet, and were 7 months into the year.

My personal suggestion with these coatings for great look and life on parts that are not susseptible to extreme wear are cases, heads, cylinders, valve covers, hubs, clamps, master cylinders, calipers. If you ride in extremely deep ruts every day dragging pegs then calipers will wear just like the factory bikes do.

I would avoid clutch covers, and ignition covers.

I hope this helps answer any questions or thoughts anyone has regarding durability and what the real deal is with all of this.

I have a question about the cerakote process on the cases. Is it possible to leave the clutch actuator bearing in and just plug it off? Being that it’s a real pain in the ass to remove.

It’s not recommended to leave in any bearings since the process is oven cure.

Just got mine back. A buddy of mine does this along with powdercoating and hydrographics. I’m stoked on how awesome it looks. Now to finish the rest of the bike!

I used Clayton @ Trick Eng. for my hubs, also welded up my rear brake sight glass and then he cut down my sub-frame. All done promptly and look great! Great transaction, I highly recommend his work.

Does anyone have before and after pictures when the coating was new and after a couple of hours?
