U.S. humor doesn't seem to translate very well to the Euros.

Wouldn't that be what we call cultural differences?

This would be great especially for race day threads. Clicking the refresh page non stop becomes a bit annoying after a while.

That's why I suggested a chat feature a while back but ML512 said that's never going to happen. Requires too much police work or something along the lines of that.
This is a good idea but if they haven't been using Ajax or angular on the background it might be tough to implement without rebuilding the entire architecture. I'm sure they may have jquery running and could pull it off

How can a like button be abused?
As I remember, it was +/- karma...and people were having a little too much fun messing with other people's karma levels. But basically it was useless.

Maybe in the future it might affect the ability for a user to do something. Too many down votes? Maybe their comment disappears...or maybe with too many down votes in a month, and they'd lose the ability to post in the main room. We'd have to monkey with the formulas there.

There's a couple ways of doing this. Small bit of client side JS that polls periodically and then updates if there's changes. Another option would be to use websockets to notify the client of a refresh. Not only would it be difficult to setup but it would be costly. Depending on site traffic, there'd be a potential for a lot of open websocket connections. I can't imagine Vital would want to pay for it and IMO would be a waste of time, money and effort to implement.

A simpler idea for you guys wanting something like this, is use something like this https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/easy-auto-refresh/aabcgdmkeab… and have it refresh itself.

a refresh button instead of F5 especially for mobile version... Live Chat for bench racing more like youtube etc.

This post right here. Perfect reason to have the like button. I'm not adding anything to this comment, but I sure as hell appreciate it. LMFAO.

Are you saying web sockets are costly bandwidth wise or something else? They’re lighter on bandwidth compared to AJAX or REST though. Less reloading of entire pages and their resources, fewer connections and headers needing to be sent/received, etc.

With the increasing amount of pub/sub implementations in databases, as well as a few like rethinkdb with push architecture that allow you to subscribe to certain queries specifically for new data, there are plenty of ways to make this happen fairly easily. Rethinkdb scales amazingly as well because you aren’t constantly querying the database, it does the heavy lifting for you by notifying you when it has something instead.

Hey everyone. I am a digital designer (designed the latest pulpmx app) and I made this concept a few months ago after growing tired of the old vital forums. While they work, they are ugly af.

I just wanted to update the visual hierarchy to make it easier to follow quoting and original posts. I also wanted to add in the like/dislike functionality, which I think can reduce the amount of posts made in a thread but still ensure engagement.

I did not add, but think being able to @ someone would be awesome too.
Good looking concept. BUT let's not to forget that these sites also live from advertisements, and so as graphic designers we should always think what is the case we design for. So while making it nicer, cleaner, and more legible we should always take care of this 'marketing/sales' side of things.

Just one little note. In terms of the type setting and its legibility on this page (your concept), I would avoid full width content blocks. One of the rules of correct type setting on a page (web/print whatever) is the correct amount of characters on a single line. This is especially important in long texts such as this forum. To have a correct amount of characters/words on one single line is really important for the experience of the user/reader while reading texts. We want to prevent that the eye gets tired reading long texts, resulting in loosing flow in perceiving information.

This is many times the reason why the message boards and forums go into 'dumbgeon' and are loosing attraction within the readers. Which I guess is unlikely to happen with this forum bcs its just one of a kind Smile BUT its great someone here actually cares about the design Smile good luck.

Honestly, no issues with the site from a formatting standpoint, but I always welcome improvements. Personally, I would like a Vital app.

Yep. App would be definitely a step forward. Would be great to have some info from analytics of how many of us are using mobile to browse/read VitalMX. Might be worth the investment into the app at the end.

If so I actually work for a company which is one of major ones here in Europe for mobile applications development. We do pretty much everything from hardcore backend coding stuff, to websites and mainly apps and design. So if there is an interest I can help in getting a good quote and contacts and all. We of course have an office in US in SF Bay area if there is a need for US contact, etc Smile

Would love to help VitalMX grow Smile
