Power valve sticking on 16/17 KTM 125's

5/23/2017 7:03pm
Have a video of my bike on youtube ,user name is ray eh just search 2017 ktm 150 mule hv walk around , dont have the fmf on it in the video just got it friday.

Im going to make another one after i open it up again to fix power valve and the fmf will be on it so ill do another video and let u know whats wrong with mine , but ya most likely bearing cause it dont want to move at all like its pinched , but when i move the powervalve flap from when i did my top end the flap maybe moved like 5 mil so its obv just the outer power valves that are stuck.

There's no bearing on the part 11. You can just slide it out sand it smooth and clean then hit it with some grease. Only takes a few minutes.

I asked a friend who tests for KTM and he said they all have some resistance, mine doesn't move well by hand but when riding it's OK. Very strange, not the best function...

Ok awesome thanks ill take the cover off tm and rev it up and see if it moves then , i just assumed it was stuck but ya bike rides awesome with a ton of power so maybe its ok when its running.

Friction is never a good idea in a power valve.
Power valves have a big influence over carburation especially low - mid range.
These are the latest generation of our power valve arms which over come a lot of the inherent problems of the KTM set up.

Sold alot world wide & are working well.

We also now have a different governor spring which crispens up the power delivery.

Lol id love to have friction in my power valve right now , cause it dosent move at all to make any friction. Hah

Do these fit perfectly now ? We wont have to modify them to make them work?

Yes,perfect fit.

The initial brass ones shown on this post were prototypes.
The customer was aware of this and seemed happy to purchase on this basis.

Once initial issues arose these were rectified very quickly & free of charge.
Second batch of brass ones no reported issues.

Subsequent batches have been manufactured from stainless steel & fully CNC machined.

These are 100% correct and have sold good quantities world wide.

We got the powervalve to work but it's just a horrible design and you never really know if it's working. After several friends lost tranny's on the 16/17 models I decided to sell my sons and go blue. Parts have been on backorder for several months with a scheduled ship date of 7/28.

What do u mean u never know if its working , u can just take off the side covers for the exhaust control and rev the bike in neutral and see if the power valve is moving properly.

Yes.... I know you can take the cover off and watch it move. Everything works fine after disassembly and cleaning but unless you stay on top of it the powervalve will start sticking again in no time.

I'm working on troubleshooting a sticky powervalve issue on a 2016 125sx. I have a set of F1 arms on order that will hopefully resolve the issue. In the meantime I've noticed that there's aprox .75mm (.030") of side to side (left-right) play in the control flap. This play seems to be partially affect the sticking. So wondering if the control flap and /or bearing sleeves are worn. Is this normal?

Take them apart and polish everything.

I just had Terry Varner build a brand new 18 125 for a friend. He had to disassemble and polish everything because it wasn't working right.

They made changes to the 2019 but I'm sure what they did?

Did anyone finally figure out the proper fix?
My 2016 OEM arms worked well. I did buy a set of the F1 arms and had the ISF polished by Yoshimura and they are working well also, no problems.

How many hours are on your bike? You can take the whole assembly apart and clean/grease it.

My 2016 Ktm 150sx has 90 hours on it. I bought it with 69 hours on it and just sent it to Trapani’s to have the top end done and other unrelated thing. I know that the 150’s we’re having problems and prior to dripping it off, I started to notice it sticking just prior to the power band. I looked it up and saw all the comments about it. I purchased the F1 arms and they are currently working on the bike to fix the power valve issue thank you for the info. I love the bike and Hope it gets fixed.
