Fines for Takeouts

As a governing body, the race officials must know that the penalties they administer have precedential value.

Why was Zach Osborne fined for his takeout of JS17, and not JA21 for his takeout on Chad Reed?

This is exactly why I believe each penalty deserves a written explanation, so we don't have perceived inconsistency. As it stands now, it seems like penalties are issued on a whim.

Anderson would be racing for free if they fined everyone for every takeout.

Seems like Josh Grant should be fined for his take out of Malcom a few weeks ago too.

I would like to point out that in some cases The Team protests like probably in JS17's case vs sometimes they don't even make a formal complaint.

Not saying it's right or wrong, just might make a difference in actions being taken.

Sure, but should that make a difference?

Did Vince Friese protest Jason Anderson for hitting him?

Just let them smash each other. Let em' take the gloves off. I don't see the harm. Hockey players do it! It adds way more excitement to the race. Don't set your self up to be cleaned out! End of story.... Make a dick head pass and expect it in return.. What is this nascar. #PUSIFIED

Bradshaw and Matiasevich would both have been racing fo free as many times as they took each other out.

Las Vegas 1992 was a classic take out. Skip to 6:20 point in this video.

I find this fine perplexing. So he was fined for the pass. But gets to keep the championship? So the pass was either okay or not okay. Which is it? Seems odd to me.

The AMA/FELD should be paying him because they just got many years of marketability out of that last lap pass!

I had heard that pro circuit protested, so i guess that is the reaction to that,

did Reed's or Mookie's team protest,

even if they didn't, it should be a bit more clear,

Seriously. Why not just take a gun to the starting line and shoot everyones front tire out. If its just fines you have to worry about, the race wins and championship bonuses should cover that.

I mean either its wrong or its not. And if they think its wrong, then taking points away makes more sense then fines.

The only issue I see with any change in the race officials is that we potentially end up in a place where contact is constantly penalized...

We don't need that. The riders don't need that.

Yeah it's strange. I wouldn't have fined him. I thought the pass was legit. That's racing and going for the win and the championship. That pass is acceptable from the first lap of the first race of the year to the last lap of the last race of the year in my opinion.

Right. A lot of guys on here talk about how its ok when a championship is on the line, but i dont agree with that. Its either acceptable or it isnt. I can take it either way. I like clean racing and i like rough racing. I just think the fans and the riders deserve to know one way or the other.

I agree. The rules don't change because there's championship implications.

So the rider who took out Osborne at the start should be fined!?
Or is the fine about intention?
I am not sure that Zach intended to take out Savatgy?

I'd imagine Husky stroked the check for Zach, or reimbursed him for whatever it was worth. He won them a championship, they're pumped with his last lap move.

Yeah the factory teams better sign back up riders so they can replace all the guys out on the couch because of broken legs...
Also racing would suck because everyone would go triangles around the turns to avoid being T-boned and sent to hospital.

Cant believe he got a fine for making a move on the last lap for a championship that ANY other rider in the field would make. The clip will also no doubt get played to death in series promotions similar to the Pieck/Friese incident.
Guess they are trying to follow the F1 model...the sports changed.

There's a survey at Racer X: the results on the ZachO question make me feel embarrassed for people that call themselves "Fans".

There was a dude on here who literally said that the Las Vegas 450 main was "the worst race [he's] ever seen."
