Software for tuning

Does a software exist for custom mapping that supports all brands? (Or maybe one for the jap bikes and another for ktm/husky). I know each manufacturer sells their own mapping software and/or devices. But I can't find anything that supports multiple manufacturers. I also know you can buy programmable ECUs to replace the stock one. But that is also not what I am looking for.

In the car world for example you have software like HP Tuners and EFI Live that support multiple different car brands and allow custom tuning via using a laptop with the software, and a device that connects the laptop to the cars OBD2 port. Why does it seem that nothing like this exists for dirt bikes or even for motorcycles in general? I've tried a bunch of different google searches, searched youtube, forums, ect. I can find people talking about tuning and I can find pictures of dyno graphs but nothing about the actual programs and interfaces being used to do it. How do performance bike shops dyno tune after engine builds or modifications? Been involved in the car scene for many years and a great tuner is worth his weight in gold. Just wondering why that appears to not be a thing for motorcycles and why it appears no quality aftermarket software exists to tune bikes with? Just wondering if anyone here has some insight on this or knows of any software that supports multiple bike manufacturers.

Anyone...? I know theres companies like Daniel Crower Racing among others that build and tune high HP dirt bike engines. I'm thinking something like what I'm asking for has to exist unless these big name shops just buy the manufacturers mapping tool for each individual brand (which is very expensive...).

Maybe an admin can move this to the moto-related section to get more traffic? Would be appreciated.

I comes down to volume. The market for tuning cars is huge in MX it is maybe 2% of the mx market wants their bike mapped and with mx less than 1% of the auto world your never going to see someone devlope a tool like that. My self i have bought honda kawasaki suzuki yamaha and ktm tuners over the past 8 years and they all need up dating and replacing you just dont get the volume of work to pay back the investment in the tool. Now days my thinking is to buy a after market ecu ie Vortex get the software and that gives you as the tuner the consistency your looking for. Speeds things up a lot and you and the customer are better off and get what you want.

I understand the market being so small, but being that there are shops out there tuning all makes and models of offroad bikes, I figured at least ONE program may exist that can support multiple brands.

This gets a bit off topic but as for not enough MX guys wanting their bike mapped, why not? People will spend $1000 on a pretty exhaust for a couple HP but not a couple hundred bucks for similar gain from a dyno tune? This is assuming you can map the stock computer (which is where having a do-it-all software that can plug into the ECU would be great). Once you get into aftermarket ECUs the cost goes up significantly, but again, people will drop $1000 on exhaust and an ECU+custom mapping would still cost less than that.

Not really looking to make a business out of this it's just something I wanted to have and learn for myself. So the market isn't much of a concern at the present moment I just wanted to know if what I'm asking for does exist or not.

Hi Ross. In your experience what do you think would be the best option for me, I have a 2016 rmz450 full exhaust, twin air power flow air filter, 98 pump fuel, otherwise stock.

I'm looking at the vortex, GET, yoshimura pim 2, remap the standard, or an yoshimura mx tuner.(to many options) as I'm in sweden, summer temp is between 20-30°c, in winter I will put the stock pipe back on, (as the spiked tires normal scratch the muffler), and winter temps can be -10°c. I'm a bit hesitant to remap the stock ecu, as I may need to make changes with such a large temp difference, and the pipe change in winter. Any advice is appreciated, cheers mate.

Have you looked at the power commander 5? I had one on a raptor 700, and had good luck with it. It is a piggyback controller, but has a lot of tuning capabilities.

No, I haven't looked at that, one more option to look at.
Everyone says it's easier than changing jets and needles, but I call bull crap. Jetting is simple, and I still have a box of jets that didn't cost me $500

There are companies that will map your bike. Twisted Development, Tokyo Mods and maybe DCR?

They might require you to buy a Vortex ECU. Not sure if you can reprogram all OEM ECUs.

I'm aware that companies will do it. But I'm trying to figure out HOW they do it. As in do they all require purchase of an aftermarket ECU or do they tune the stock ECUs? If they tune stock ECUs what software and tuning tool is used? That's all I'm trying to figure out.

Yeah see yet I can't find a single damn thing on the internet about such a software. Nothing beyond "I saw guy X do it and I know shop Y does it too" but no one knows a simple name of the tool being used. Is it some kind of industry secret or something? I just don't get it.

Bumping this up as one last effort to get the info I'm looking for.

And to request again that if an admin moved this to the moto-related section which gets more traffic, someone may see it who knows what I'm looking for.

When I was at HMF Racing I used techlusion on the dyno to create maps.
The gen4 autotune system works well for messing about.
You cannot create a map without the tuner software and docking device from techlusion but talk to a tech for that info.

Making a custom map is a bit tricky without a load dyno but you could use a recorder like one from innovate.
Good luck

Yeah I'm on their website checking out the gen4 autotune and it looks pretty interesting. And also looking at the SAFR tool just for getting AFR. But don't see any mentions of a software anywhere. You're saying if I call them that they will have the software?

For 98 I would just buy the vortex and its preprogrammed maps will be fine. I am a fan of the product I feel they come set up better out of the box better than the get.
