2017 CRF450R bolts ceasing?

Anyone else had this issue? The side plate bolts that bolt into the plastic of the air box were rock solid and wouldn't move. The one side I got out but it took some force and once it snapped then it was easy to spin out. The other side however didn't budge. I ended up stripping the head and just retapped the hole.

I only do the plastic bolts hand tight and never torque on them real hard so I'm confused as to why these 2 were so difficult. It's like the shoulder of the bolt bonded to the plastic. But even then once i drilled the shoulder out, the thread wouldn't come out with a left hand drill bit.

Just curious if anyone else has had or heard of these issues.

Use anti sieze on them.

Righty tighty, lefty loosey yeah? In seriousness though, bonding to the plastic doesn't sound likely. As above though, I'd try anti sieze on them.

Did you get dirt in there? Water? Loctite? Nothing should be stuck on a 2017 unless the mechanic derped out

i work on lots of bikes, and this year so far two out of four 17 crf450s i did had real tite seat and side plate bolts, i used to be a machininst and it seemed like the threads were made with a dull tap, i put Spectro assembly lube on them as i do all frequently used bolts and it didnt free them up so i retapped them with a fresh tap

I am putting grease on them now. I had to drill the head out and then drilled through the bolt and got the thread out with an easy-out. Luckily I got good aim Wink went straight through didn't ruin the threads of the locking nut. Just something to keep an eye out for I suppose.

Nothing I could notice in the threads. Once I drilled the head off, the threads came out easy enough.

Im not sure if you tried already, but harbor freight has impact screwdrivers that you can put sockets on. It works really freakin good compared to name brand ones. Its great for loosening red loctited bolts. You wont round anything that way

Yeah I tried that too. The locking nut that is embedded in the plastic was actually twisting and wrecking the plastic whenever I hit it.

First thing I do with any bike is remove every Bolt and use never seize and re- torque , and regrease every bearing.
