I've always put 120ml into my bike once serviced but actually read the manual the other day and it says to undo the level nut on the side casing and wait until oil stops coming out the minimum in the manual sais for just filter change 1050ml but when I undo the level bolt it gave me more than 250 ml back and was still coming out so it doesn't make sense of the manual any help thanks

Measuring it out is more reliable than using the check bolt. In order for the check bolt to be accurate, you have to run the bike at idle for a couple of minutes and then let it sit for a couple of minutes to let the oil settle and then check it. If you do that, it's pretty accurate but I never did it except for the first time or 2. After that, I just put the measured amount in and never had an issue.

Yh that is what I done run on idle and that and as said gave me loads of oil back I've service my bike around 6 times so if something was going to be wrong with the level something would of gone wrong ?

Use the amount stated in the service manual, a cap full extra won't hurt either.

Are you draining from both bolts (the main plug and the one on the magneto side)? Regardless, as mxb2 said, a little extra won't hurt anything. I run about 150cc more than recommended in my KX to eliminate the squeal.

If you are draining all of that then I would say just put the recommended volume in and forget the check bolt.

I drain mine from the sump plug, ignition cover bolt, take out the strainer with the magnetic filter, clean the magnetic filter, once I have drained the oil I hold the kill switch and kick the bike over about 15 times. A lot of oil will come shooting out the ignition cover bolt. And make a huge mess if you do it inside. Tip the bike to both sides a few times. Put all the plugs in, and fill the amount recommended in the book, start the bike, and like everyone else, there is usually a little extra oil when I open the check bolt. I never drain the excess oil, a little more is better than a little less.
