I've got a hitch carrier I use on my SUV. I would not put one on a car - I would pull a small trailer instead.

Logan, your Tacoma is just getting started, unless it's been bent out of shape by an accident.

Keep throwing oil changes at that thing and you can get another 228K if you want. I've already got 117K on mine (it's a 2013) and I'm going to keep it for 9 more years. Then I'll give it to my son so he can thrash it for a while....

I have thought of this also, since I don't really need a truck anymore and actually don't ride as much as I used to.
I think you need a car with about say 500 lbs of hitch or bumper rating. Saying bike 400, carrier 100 lbs.
The Subaru are there, one has to dig a bit for these ratings. A Prius is not going to get there.

Consider this also: How much better mileage are you going to get? 10MPG? How much does it cost you to fill up? $50?

If you get 50% better gas mileage, say 30MPG instead of 20, your fuel cost will go down by one third. If you fill up twice a month at $50, that's about $33 better off you'll be. How long will it take at that savings to justify buying a new car?

If you just want a new car, no problem - have at it. I do that sometimes too. But buying a car to save on gas is like eating 400 pounds of chicken instead of 1/4 pound of red meat so you can lose weight. Grinning Cool

If you do get a new car, post it up! Let's check it out...

My wife has a 16 WRX...It's a hoot to drive, especially with dedicated snow tires in the winter.

Go get the Subaru. I have had a Corolla, Camry, and now an Impreza and my family has always had Toyotas and converting to Subaru slowly. They are extremely great cars, especially for the price. The Impreza gets better city mileage than the Camry and 1-2 below a Corolla. It does get as good or better than them on the highway. They are by far the easiest to maintain also with how everything is set up. My car and my mother's Forester are both better in the winter compared to my father's Tundra. If you can afford it and find a good one, get yourself the Forester XT. My mother has one and its almost as fun as a WRX to drive normally but has a ton of room.

The Crosstrek you posted earlier is just an Impreza that's lifted with a bit better suspension.

Only thing to look out for with a Subaru is to take it for a test drive on the highway. The road noise is a little louder than some other cars. Just to be aware of.

Also resale on a Subaru compared to other imports or cars in general aren't even close. Somehow they retain their value much better than their competitors.
