How many people not connected to moto watch sx? I dont know of any. That being the case we are a finite quantity to whatever extent. So feld doesnt give a crap. We will watch and have watched shit for years. Why upset the applecart? Roll out the same crap each round and get a check.
I've pretty much stopped watching...I'm sure I'm not the only one. Something has to change or they will lose more and more viewers.

I check the results each weekend on the internet and that's it.

What made you stop watching? Just curious.

What would get you to return watching?

I know what'd get me to watch: Get it off those idiotic stadium circuits and run it on mile-length outdoor tracks laid across natural terrain where ... no wait ...

While watching the show I find myself on my phone browsing the web, Instagram, Facebook and forums. I get bored especially with all the filler stuff they add in.

More than anything it's the tracks for me, they are lame, everyone does the same thing, it's boring...I want to see these guys challenged. I get excited when I see only a couple guys do an obstacle...but I also like seeing these guys making mistakes...I like long whoop sections, long deep sand sections (maybe around a couple corners or something). Challenge these guys...mistakes will make the racing closer, closer racing will make for more exciting racing.

the tracks need to change.

I agree with that. SX has gotten very boring.

I think one of the reasons I like motocross so much is because even if there isn't a battle on the track it's still interesting to see these guys battle against a super gnarly track. I remember last year at one race second moto I think it was, Marvin nearly ate shit 3 times on a single lap. No pressure or anything. He was just pushing it and the track was pushing back. I can appreciate that and enjoy watching it.

SX on the other hand is just stale right now. Whether it's the tracks, the format, the bikes. Maybe a combination of all three.

I'm not sure I'd like Supercross to grow unnaturally by gimmicks like NASCAR. And if you did it wouldn't fix the fundamentals limiting attendance that bike costs are too high (to fix at least) and there are fewer places to ride.
I think the MEC should be the test bed for change, and then supercross should change when it makes sense.
They made that one little change on timed events and now they are burning through to the floor. Oops.
Yes, I'd like to see some more excitement ala Hannah. But these guys are rightfully protecting their clean cut marketing appeal by saying nothing too alarming. Get pissed and get dropped by your sponsor. Imagine if Dungey said "Seely rode like a novice and damn near took me out when he freakin centerpunched me. I was lucky but he won't be the next time". Yes that would go over real well with Target sponsor. But it seems funny the NASCAR guys get into more fights than Moto.
On ratings and interest, I can't get my kids to watch it on TV, but they love going to the local Supercross (was SF now Oakland) and riding.

Thanks to the people taking the linked survey below. With the results so far, it's providing a good pattern on a few questions posed. I'll share every fifty or so responses. .... I'm also deleting responses from the same IP just FYI.

Its not good when the people that like a sport enough to go on a forum dedicated to it are saying they find the sports main event boring.

For me, it has been hard this year because of the timing of the shows. I record them and watch once the event is underway so that I can forward through the commercials. YES commercials give the broadcasters money, but to me they also put potential viewers off watching.

If you get a west coast round that starts late for me (Chicago), by the time I've let it record long enough to not catch up to live its very late and I've fallen asleep before the main events a number of times.

I think the commercials are awful, the fill in sections with the social media stuff makes me cringe and the actual races feel like a side event. Make the races the main thing, and perhaps show more of other riders evening, the battles through the field could be covered. I don't want to see the top three all of the time.

In the last let's say 5 years, how many times have the best 3-5 riders started up front together? I can only think of a handful of times. (A2 2014, LA 2011, LV 2011 to name a few) When that happens, which is rare, the racing is incredible and exciting. I think shortening the program would help a little bit, like getting rid of the semis, adding a second main, have just the 250 lcq and main during the broadcast, whatever it may be, the start just needs to be less important. I guarantee that no one is sleeping if the fastest guys are all battling up front.

I don't know why its so taboo here to say the racing in SX sucks. It just isn't exciting anymore.

I go back and watch races from 2007-2009 or 2011-2013 and it's amazing how much better they were then. The tracks were better and wider, the bikes were less dialed in and as important as they are now so racing was closer, it was more unpredictable, and it was exciting to see what would happen on any given weekend.

I completely missed last weeks race in Toronto, and when I found out Tomac won off a good start and Dungey had a crappy start and got to 2nd... I'm just not surprised at all. The parity in the 450 class is awful. The top 2-3 guys are just so far ahead of the middle guys, and the middle guys are so far ahead of the bottom guys, there is no surprising action.

I'm not disrespecting the top and middle riders or the teams. They are the ones that deserve the most respect, and I give them huge props for dealing with these garbage tracks and a garbage promoter in Feld. But something has to change. SX is beyond stale. I don't even bother trying to get non-moto friends to watch it because I know they'll be bored out of their mind.

I don't know the solution. Obviously the tracks are awful and need to be overhauled, but I'd like to see more dirt, elimination motos, less factory and more stock bikes, combination of the 250+450's on the track, ANYTHING to even the playing field and add some excitement. Just do something.

Survey results?

Survey results?
We don't have enough responses yet to really provide a definitive trend outside a few questions. Here are the results from those specific questions:

Do you ride off road motorcycles?
Yes - 93%

If yes, do you race competitively?
Yes - 64%

Are you following this season?
Yes - 93%

Ranking current format is unclear with the number of responses

The most important aspects of changing are Track design (1) and Main Event Format (2). The other items are fairly close to one another at this time.

We should go to a chase format:
No - 77%

Tracks need to be unique and not a recycling of the same obstacles week-to-week. Obstacles should be indicative of what the best riders in the world are able to ride. Past professions should be direct consults on track design on a continuous basis.
Yes - 86%

Again, with the number of responses we have so far you can't really draw any definitive conclusions without a wide margin of error. So share the survey with your friends and openly. The more data we get back the better. All of the responses so far are via Vital's link I posted minus a few that I shared with my circle of friends who ride & race.

Hey Vital, feel free to share this as well. I imagine it would provide a good writing topic. If you're interested I'll share the full access to results with you if we start getting more responses.
