I'm planning a trip to Metlife supercross and could use some help. I've never been in the area so I'd like to know a few things to help me plan. We are flying into Newark on friday afternoon. We want to spend time in New York City. Again I've never been. I need to know a good area to stay. Should I get a car? What the best way to travel into the city? Good places to eat? Anything cool to do? Ill be with my gf so I want it to be a fun trip.
Any help is appreciated.

Public transportation to the city. Car to get around Jersey if you need to.

I've gone the last 3 years. I find it easier to stay in a hotel in western ct (30 or so miles from the stadium) and just drive to the race in the morning. The hotel prices in ny and nj are outrageous. You would obviously need to rent a car but it's worth it to get around and is still cheaper than staying in ny and taking public transit.

I usually just get an uber or use a company called Dial 7 to get into Manhattan from the airport. No need whatsoever to hire a car. I have one in the city and it costs me $500 a month to park it, and I use it about once a month. In fact, will probably get rid of it.

Recommend staying in Midtown, but don't stay directly on Times Square - you'll think it's cool for 30 seconds then be annoyed at all the tourists with selfie sticks or trying to catch Pokemans. Get one a few blocks away. Midtown is well located if you want to see the park, the viewing platform at the Rockefeller, Empire State Building or walk the high line. Can get the subway down to the Ground Zero memorial.

As for getting to the MetLife, it's super easy. There's a shuttle bus service from the Port Authority bus terminal in midtown west which takes you right there and back.

We just went to NY/NJ in October. Stayed at the Robert treat best western in NJ (about $100 a night) not a bad walk from newark penn statuon. From there u can use public transportation/subway to get everywhere you want to go. (Was my first time in NY and I would have hated driving) you can take the subway everywhere really. We were there for a week and didn't see everything we wanted too. Time square at night is pretty cool, we went to Katz deli (best pastrami sandwich I've ever had) and saw Simon Rex (had no idea who he was till someone googled him) in there. Went to central park, rode staton island ferry to see statue of liberty (free and about 45 min round trip) 911 memorial were cool but the museum was packed with people 2hr wait(we skipped it) a couple guys with us got city passes (I believe they were called) and got to see a few more things than we did. But we went for the experience and walked everywhere. If ur not ready to walk get a car.
You can ride the metro to MetLife but just a heads up there is nothing near the stadium. No stores anything so bring stuff with you. About a 20-30 min ride from Newark.
I'd search for things you want to see and try and map it out. We went as a group of 15 guys so plans.....There were none hahaha

Plan on NOT being able to get a cab after the race ,its a complete shit show . Check the train stops ,there is a train station right there ,we ended up getting on the train and taking it to the first stop just so we could get a cab back to our hotel.
