Petition against closure of Lierop

We must all come together and support any track anywhere in the world to show these minorities who try to close tracks (that they have usually moved near to in the first place) that we are a bigger community than them and will be heard

Two more here. I wish you the best of luck.

Signed.

What I dont get is literally you can hear the motorway that borders it over the bikes from Benelaux. Also there are hardly any houses nearby, it is all farmland.

Will signatures from U.S. residents be considered? I can't imagine a whole bunch of U.S. residents signing this would be a good thing, and may detract from the force the petition has. I could see opponents of it saying that it doesn't matter what a bunch of U.S. residents think, they don't live anywhere near the noise issues, nor would they ever contribute to the local economy.
I think the international signers will actually benefit the petition. It shows people that the track is internationally known and loved. In this case it isn't...
I think the international signers will actually benefit the petition. It shows people that the track is internationally known and loved. In this case it isn't weird to get petitions from all over the world because of the GP's and other big events in the past.
Good enough for me. Hopefully a good many local residents are behind the petition as well, to help sway the local authorities and decision makers.

Done and super shared throughout the Moto community in our part of England so that will spread out fast,

I'm riding fat cats sand park tomorrow so I'll make sure it's known there too as there will be at least 120 Moto sand lovers

The more international signatures the better, it shows the world of Moto is not simply a local thing but something that matters especially with historic venues such as this.

Could someone that knows about this inform us a bit on the situation?

Is there any hope that they wont close the track? 10k signatures from all over the world is not bad at all!

As of now they have to close the track on the 1st of July. Lierop has always been an illegal track but the track was ''tolerated''. Now there are some people who suddenly started complaining. Local policitians want the track to stay. They will go to the province again and ask them to make an exception in the destination plan. The petition will hopefully help with that.
MAC Lierop is also still looking for people who have some photos or film of the track before 1982. They need evidence that the track has been there since then.

Ok, sounds very familiar. These things happen all the time.

New areas of houses are being built close to tracks and suddenly the home owners start to complain even though they were stupid enough to buy or build a house relatively near a track...

And the track that has been active for decades run by volunteers are forced into a corner. So stupid.

It's not surprising. Unfortunately it's the world we live in.

Everything has to be by the book now a days. I really do hope they can save lierop, but I don't have much hope.

Far too many are getting shut down, and none are opening. I do worry about the future of our sport. In 50 years it won't be here.

Good news! There will be a demonstration next Tuesday in Lierop. The national, provincial and regional press will be there. For the Dutch people:

Keep signing the petition.
