Is anyone surprised with how well he is riding in his first season?

Kid kills it. Just get them whoops dialed and he will be all good.

I was surprised how well he did in 2016 MX!

Yes, I am surprised that he isn't up front battling for the win. It looks like he is slightly off the pace of Mcelrath, Hill, Plessinger.

Watching the way he progressed and set goals throughout his first 250 outdoor season, no I'm not surprised. But he wants to win now. I talked to him after the race at A1, and he said he wanted to, "Come in, win every single round, and win a championship." But he's also realistic, and said, "That's going to be tough with how stacked the class is this year."

"A first podium is all good. Obviously a top five is good, too, but I belong on the podium, and I think that I can get some wins this season."

Once he gets the whoops down and gets at little more experience passing guys one on one in the rythym sections he's going to be a threat to win both titles in 2018 and beyond. Supercross is a different animal and the fact that he's running up front so early is impressive.

McElrath and Hill have seemed to be the smoothest and the fastest guys on this coast thus far. Hill did a great job chasing Shane and keeping him honest those final few laps. Shane did a great job riding mistake-free down the stretch and Hill impressed me with his conditioning to be pushing it that hard so deep into the race.

West coast has been some good racing.

Forkner is close. I see it within the next few rounds, definitely by the end of the season.

Love watching him ride!

He was getting killed in the whoops for sure. Everywhere else on the track it looked like he was hanging with the podium guys.

He's doing pretty much exactly what he should be doing. LEARNING!!!

I think everyone had high expectations after his stellar rookie outdoor season. Maybe too high. This is his rookie SX season and if he can stay off the deck and not get hurt then that will be a success.

Can't wait to watch 250 outdoors this year!

I'll be honest I expected/wanted him to win. After removing my rose tinted glasses I've realized that was a lot to hope for. He's kicking ass for his first two races. Sprocket bolts are torqued AF
