Well I just bought this bike off Craigslist and I'm very new to dirtbikes and vintage ones at that all my friends tell me I'm crazy and wasting my time but I've got a thing for old motos. My older brother put me on a 1981 dt175 and I taught myself to ride and I was hooked to say the least So I set out to find my own bike I bought a 1977 dt100 and quickly figured out that wasnt the bike for me so I sold it on and posted a want ad and people starting sending me offers and I finally narrowed it down to this bike and from what I can tell it's In pretty decent shape for the year the kid thought it was a 1980 and from what I can tell it's a 1978 and I got it for $175 dollars and I think I got a pretty good deal it needs work like a kickstarter anyone has one For sale let me know and a front brake handle. It hasn't been started or ridden since 2001 it's got good compression from what I can tell but I haven't torn into it yet but where should I start I really like this bike already and I've never even ridden it thanks guys I look forward to your input I'd like to hear some imput from some more experienced then myself.

Congrats, that sounds like a bargin!
My advice is, look inside airbox so no one live there and put a fresh filter there, drain the tank and put fresh premix in, change oil in gearbox, se if you can get it running and see if all gears work.
If it works, fix what is broken, ride and have fun!
If there is some problem/doesent work, ask here and estimate the cost and labor, if its too much money or labor you can probably sell it with a profit and get a running bike to start with.
Dont dive in and start a restore!
It is highly addictive, and will cost you $$$ without riding..
Just my opinion

Well I've gotten pretty deep In to it at this point and have figured out why it wouldn't start from sitting something found its way into the airbox and it was filled all the way thru into the intake tube and down to the carb. It was filled to the brim with small fibers and acorns and garbage from whatever mouse lived in there. I'm about to pull the motor out and clean it up I'm going to pull the head and jug off to clean out whatever crap made its way into the motor it's got good compression and great spark I shocked myself pretty good but I need to know what the torque specs for the jug are and the head so if anybody could help me with that would be awesome. All it needs is a carb possibly and a brake lever and perch and chain and sprocket and possibly a carb it's really corroded and trashed the slide was seized in and I had to use pb plaster and some gentle persuasion to get it out but it came out here's some new pictures of it since I got it home and tore it apart.
