Engine Damage

Hi all. Friend of mine has a problem. Pics explain it better. Please discuss and provide opinions on what to do if you wouldn't mind. Thanks.

Bike is a 2014 KTM 350sxf. Has had a decent maintenance schedule followed. Ridden fairly hard.

He found those pieces of in the header pipe. They were making one hell of a noise.

Bottom of the guide broke off.....two options, replace the guide, or do nothing. Years ago it was common for Mitsubishi valve guides to break like that and it was considered OK by the manufacture.

Me personally, I'd replace the guides and do a valve job

Yep, I'd do a valve job.much cheaper to do it now than it would be if it broke more.

Pull the head replace the guides and have the valve seats cut. If it was my bike I would also replace the piston and rings since you are right there as well and new valves.

i do beleive you actually have the small pieces of the head which holds the valve guide in place....looks like a new head will be needed....however if the valve guide is still seated in the head and doesnt move then u could leave it...but a dropped valve will destroy the engine.....casting around that valve guide could have just been alittle brittle and broke off....u can see the in-mold of the actual guide....high reving definitely can shake thing loose

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I will tell him to come here and read your responses. He is taking it through to a ktm dealership tomorrow to see what they have to say.
