I have to mount the baby you gate to the wall,it's made so that you can buy extra hooks and just move the gate to which ever door way you want. The gate is like a window shade ,it pulls out and rolls up when you unlock it and unhook it. The problem with this one is ,I have to extend the hooks about 4 inches off the wall to make the gap , it seems simple enough to until you figure in the part where it doesn't look shit . I could just stack some 2x4s to wall but then I have God damn 2x4s stacked on the wall . The gate mounts with 2 hooks ,one about 4 inches off the floor and then the second about 30 inches up from that.

How does it attach at the other end? Is there any way you could extend the latch?

Both side mount the same ,they have the rod running from top to bottom that fits in the hook , if i extended the other end it would be into the walking area . If i extend the side with the roll it will be blocked by the corner of the table and shouldn't get run into.

If the gate is fabric i would just go to a seamstress / stitcher and let them extend the window shade by the amount you need.
That seems the most logical and most clean look you'll get and pretty sure its cheaper than refabricating the hooks

It's like a nylon mesh ,the dog hit it last night and folded himself in half .

I would make some simple loops out of 1/4" nylon rope. Basically extending the gate instead of the brackets.
Mount the brackets to the walls, pull gate all the way, finish off with nylon cord. Use some ribbon and tie a bow. You know, blue for boy pink for girl.

My 2 year old daughter went head over heals down the hard wood stairs in our house. She got up and walked it off.

I installed the baby gate the next day.

Build a post that isn't attached to the wall but can butt up close and has a heavy base. Like the red rope stands at the movies. That way you aren't fuggering up your walls.

Haha I was gonna suggest the same thing, except use some of the small bungee cords. Go for the plastic ends though, not the metal ones. Don't need your kid walking up with a metal hook in their mouth. lol My suggestion is solely based on convienence, though. I always have a shit ton of bungee cords laying around, except when I need one.

I thought the rope idea was a winner , then my wife asked if i thought it was a good idea to have a 4 inch gap that he could get his head stuck in . I'm still liking the idea though.

I feel like the dog would knock the stands over if he lawn-chaired himself on it already

Also, you should definitely set up a video cam for future canine/baby gate collisions

The dog collision was hilarious, it was at the top of the 3 stairs from the kitchen to the backdoor landing, I just let him back inside and he never uses the stairs, just jumps up into the kitchen, well the lights were off and he fully committed into his jump. He looked back at me like it was my fault.

How about a board on a piano hinge attached to the wall so that when not in use it folds flat against the wall, and when needed fold out and attach to the gate latches? Stain/paint to match your wall and trim.

That's exactly my plan , I was texting with my old boss earlier today to see if I could stop over and use his wood shop to rip some boards tomorrow,I was just gonna post a picture of it when finished .
