This is a work in process but I am collecting as complete results from the World Mini, Ponca City and Loretta Lynn's from 1982 through 1986 as I can. I will also add 1981 Amateur National races and CMC and other big regional amateur races from around the country during this time period. Again, this is a work in progress and I will be adding more data as I can plug it in. It takes time since I do not have these in word document and I am pulling them off sources that I have to type them all out.

Hopefully some of you enjoy these and please send me a message if you have results that i am missing here between one of these three national events within these years. Or if you have more than just first place, top three, or even top five as I have some of them listed. Please provide documented sources if possible, thanks.

This race at Sand Hill I am certain was my first pro race as I remember, I raced the 125 Int. on Sat. and then decided that night in the Hotel to make the move to the Pro ranks. What doesn't make sense is the post after this original one says I raced the pro class the week before at the fairgrounds..still brings back some great memories, thanks for posting!

Very cool thanks! I had a great time going to Japan for that, I crashed out over a muddy triple mid way if I remember correctly, my sternum is still messed up from that crash lol. Before the race, the five of us Yamaha guys got to tour the Factory production line, and then went to test the 1st off Prototype Water cooled 500 ( the 490 replacement we thought ) that would later hit the GP circuit. We went to some super secret track in the hills that was their factory test track. That thing was a bit of a beast, but very trick since every piece of it was hand made, even the tank was aluminum and hand made. The only thing I really didn't like, and was scetchy actually, was the rear linkage hung down so low below the swingarm, and actually swung lower on compression, that when you flat landed it and bottomed the linkage would dig in like an anchor and try to pitch you off, not fun lol.

Thanks for the blast from the past, I haven't raced since 1986. I retired at the ripe old age of 10. I had a couple of runner ups back in the day, and on the way home from Loretta's 86 I guess I told my parents I wanted to quit (I don't remember that part). I don't have much memory of those days and it has been great reading the names of yesterday!!

Man this is awesome, I've been searching for results from 1983 era for a long time. I raced the GNC Texas series in 1983 and never lost a moto in the 125 Beg class. I'd love to see those results.

We ran Harlingen, San Antonio, Laredo, Corpus, etc...

I qualified for Ponca City in the number one spot with my bad a$$ little liquid-cooled YZ125! lol I'd pay to see those reults again....I have pics of the huge trophy we received in Laredo...And we were on the cover of a magazine, but I've not found that issue either. I thought it was Cycle News....Do you recall? All the class winners and their trophies on the cover...

Thanks for letting me re-live that time, the 80's were awesome...Ryan Marshall

1983 NMA Yamaha Grand National Championships

Ponca City, OK. August 1-7, 1983

Mouse McCoy left his factory Honda ride in 1983 for a privateer DMC Kawasaki. He showed up at Ponca City with some serious speed. The all white Dave Miller built machine was fast all week. On his 83cc modified machine he set the fastest lap time of the week, in ANY classification. He was second low point man going into the 83cc modified class when he had to put his foot down at speed and broke it. McCoy was looking to end his major championship drought that had lasted since a 60cc Race of Champions win in 1979.

Also note that Craig Canoy raced a stock KX80 and a KX in the 105 class. But he raced a Honda in the 83cc Modified 12+ class. And how about Jesse James on the only Italjet in the field (at least top 10). And how did Mike Pascarella ever make that 83/84 Suzuki move? Especially in the STOCK class?!?

I have the Italjet referenced that Jesse James won Ponca on in my garage. I raced that same bike and led every lap of the World Mini and crashed on one of the last corners. Still was shown on it in MXA factory minicycle article Sept 85.

These interviews are from Great Britian for the International Atari Schoolboy International Motocross event on July 30 and 31 in 1983. 11 countries total sent schoolboy riders and the Americans easily handled the field. Paul Denis, Larry Ward, Richard Bellora and Hank Moree Jr. represented the United States. Here is Larry Ward then doing an interview before the second moto. Also two clips of interviews from Moree at the event.

Indeed good stuff here!!!
However, Hank couldn't stay in sight of Damon at ANY track within any class from '80 to '86
