Who, or what, is "the middy," and what type of activities would interest you stateside?
Would you like to see some other forms of racing, like NASCAR or NHRA? Spend time at the beach, or hiking in the mountains? Visiting historical landmarks, or amusement parks? Big cities or country retreats?
I could give you plenty of suggestions in the New England area, and will also be at Southwick.

Yeah it might help to know what you're looking to do... RedBud isn't too far from Chicago or Grand Rapids, so you could end up in either of those towns if you wanted a city-type experience. Otherwise Michigan has some spectacular beaches, camping spots, cabins, rivers, fishing, hunting, etc... Lots of riding spots, beer, and guns if that interests you...

Camping at RedBud is an entirely different experience than camping in the rest of the state Grinning

NASCAR Sprint Cup race in NH, the weekend after the 'Wick
http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sprint-cup-series/schedule.html

NHRA in Ohio, the weekend prior to RedBud
http://www.nhra.com/schedules/2016.aspx

Could take in some awesome racing with minimal travel, if you have the time or inclination.

We came to Red Bud all the way from Bama in 06,07,08. Twice we camped at Warren Dunes state park (the first time a bunch of fucking Chinese stole our entire food source while we slept. even ate the shit at our picnic table while we slept) and the last time we stayed at a motel in Benton Harbor.

I never would have known that there was that much sand (beach) in Michigan. Look like more sand than I've seen on any Florida Beach and I've seen all of those.

Oh yeah, lake Michigan is COLD AS FUCK in July!!

Minus having our food stolen I we really enjoyed come there to visit and plan to do so again one day. Now that I have a Toy Hauler we will try the camping experience there on site and ride amateur day

Yeah its funny now but that was in 2006. My wife's job and mine had just been terminated after 18 years so we went on a shoestring budget and to have someone steal a large part of your food for the next three days wasn't funny at the time. Hell we were ready to eat the family pet by late Sunday evening. LOL I get a kick out of telling that story now.

Hey thanks for replys. So the middy is slang here for other half missus/ wife in my case. So we fly into Chicago have a couple nights there grab a rental head out to redbud the day before. So just looking for things to do in that area really to see and do on the way have booked 2 nights accommodation redbud area and then day after moto have that day to look around how much of a drive is it to Grand Rapids? we are a little constrained by time. What's the best must do things in Chicago why there? We fly to New York on the 4th want to do main attractions then we get a rental again couple days before the wick so any cool spots or things to do on the way. We are into motorsports obviously but Allso stick and ball sports any must play golf courses in that area etc or any cool crafty spots that some of you may no looking for adventure so suggest away..

Ps sorry for the sa

Go to a place called staples (our warehouse stationary) and get a cardboard tube to put all your posters in so they don't get damaged. Wear a New Zealand tee shirt, we got badge pins from the promoter at washougal. A perfect rental car was the Dodge Durango, same size as a territory I guess. Don't eat one of thier pretzels, tasted like moto socks covered in plastic cheese.
Make sure you get to the races early and get a pass to get autographs. Message the teams on social media, rch really looked after us. Our sons name is Roczen so they took care of us which was awesome.
Don't drink the normal us beer, they do some quality craft beers.

Grand Rapids is about a hour and a half drive. It's a fun city, plenty of beer to be had (was named Beer City, USA). RedBud is about half-way between Chicago and GR though, so it would be out of the way if you have to fly out of Chicago...

Harbor Shores Golf Club is not too far from RedBud, the Senior PGA stops there, so it's a beautifully well-kept course.

I would recommend just driving north along the lakeshore and see what you find. South Haven is a cool town, Saugatuck is very cool too, but it's a little further north than South Haven. If you wanted, you could go from St Joseph to South Haven, Saugatuck, Holland and GR all in a day. That's what I would do. But then you'd have to drive all the way back to Chicago if you didn't want to fly out of GR...

Between NYC and Southwick, you could swing through the Berkshires (mtns) in western Mass. and check out the Appalachian trail, if you're into hiking. You will find excellent golf courses throughout NY, CT, and MA. Check out TPC in Norton, MA. In the immediate area of Southwick is a Six Flags park, and Old Sturbridge Village. For a day trip you could head to Newport, RI, Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod (excellent sportfishing). A little further north, you could climb Mt. Washington, tallest peak in eastern U.S, highly recommend, some trails fairly easy and you will be there at the ideal time for mild weather. If you decide to go, check the weather in advance. Can't stress that enough. You want to go on a clear day for breathtaking views in every direction.

I have never heard the term middy either,

if you are staying close and can get there Friday afternoon, its a great time to see the bikes up close, and meet some of the people, esp the privateers, Saturday is all go so it can be quite busy,

Hopefully you'll spend some time in NYC? There's obviously a bunch of things to do and see there.

Is that something I would have to pre bye tickets for or just roll up and bye at gate? That would be awsome to catch though.

Unless they are playing the Yankees there will be tickets at the box office. I'm not a baseball fan but I always catch 1 game a year just to get inside such a historic ball park.

Sox tickets are available for every game. If you don't mind dealing with scalpers, who are everywhere, you will find decent seats, reasonably priced. Ace Tickets sells in the secondary market, but are extremely overpriced.
Shoot me a message if you want, I'll give you my phone # if you have any questions, or want o meet up at the 'Wick. I'll be there all day Friday and Saturday. Good advice from a previous poster about going on Friday, but you need a wristband...message me.

Yeah man, people come from all over believe it or not. It was named the number 1 US travel destination of 2014...

https://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/travel-tips-and-articles/top-10-us-tra…

And # 20 on the NYTimes list of places in the world to visit...

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/01/07/travel/places-to-visit.ht…

But yeah, you're right, there's nothing to do here so you probably should just stay home...
