Hi Ahrma361,,,been a few weeks since your post, but no luck finding any specs for changing the rotary valve. I did find the info can am printed to switch the cdi if the 125 unit failed.
If you get a chance,,,and know where the old notes are for disc change let me know. I did see one for changing a qualifier disc to one more like MX, but no porting or disc changes for the 125mx.

I bought one of these locally as a low hour basket case. I'll be sending Al Roberts some pics of my ignition see what he thinks as the original is not there, someone threw in a 370 stator doubt it will work. If that doesn't pan out I'll go to a PVL ignition. Thanks for the link MX200 !

Guys, since this is a Canned Ham thread, wanted to see if you could confirm (deny?) if this is a 125 head. I was told it was, but have never built a Can Am. This conversation may push me that direction....

Thanks for the links, I had not seen these before!
No problem. I remember Can Am factory boyz. Stan Currington, Tom Gaetz, and young Ross Pederson(amateur) before turning pro. They were like a freight train of Orange. Factory Yamaha Canada guys Zola Berenyi Jr. Al Loque, with OW Yamaha. Canadian Vintage Mx site has this info. Good bunch of guys, that enjoy old dirt bikes.

A stator from a 370 will work as long as its a Bosch.......I used to switch stators(complete covers) from my 400-Mx6 to my 125-Mx6 all the time. Just verify the timing going from one engine to the other. Also a stator coil assembly from a 78 SkiDoo Blizzard 6500, 79 & 80 Blizzard 7500 & 9500 will definitely work, & possibly 81. They switched to Nippon-Denso I think 81 or 82. The only difference is you would have to add the Can-Am trigger coil, but the stator plate is drilled and tapped for it.

also, to the guy who said the '74 mx1 & 2 were gutless...I agree but on the other hand, the fact that it was the same running gear made it just about unbreakable. personally, this offset the weight difference because I could ride it 5 times harder then I could an YZ or CR. in '90-93, I was unbeatable in the western 125 expert class, including steamboat springs. the 250 expert class was a little different as a bone stock mx1 250 was almost the same power as a highly tuned elsinore but easier to ride fast as it had a tractor like powerband, smooth from bottom to top.
