i'm getting married in september and we're thinking of spending a couple weeks in san diego for the honeymoon. give me the skinny on the "must see's" and the "worth skipping's" of so cal. also, where abouts should i avoid staying? we're looking for a decent hotel without spending an arm and a leg, however we aren't trying to stay in the hood
thanks dudes and dudettes

Also check out Downtown La Jolla, close to Children's Pool where the Seals are. There is a very small store that has stairs that lead you down to a cave with a view of the Ocean. If you are claustrophobic, it might be tough, but once you get to the bottom it's cool. Bring a camera and they charge a few bucks.
If you like Carne Asada, hit up Lolita's downtown, next to Petco park.
If you like Pizza, try Lefty's Chicago style in Hilcrest / North Park (closed on Monday)
Barbeque go to Phil's Barbeque near the Sports Arena (closed Monday. Expect to wait 30 minutes in line to get in. It's worth it.
i'll check out the carne asada.
i proposed in chicago. the real deal chicago pizza isn't my thing.
i'm from k.c., i have a feeling san diego bbq can only be a let down
how about parts of the city to avoid?
thanks again for the help

That said, most of the other rec's seem good. Skip TJ, not safe at all now. I know guys that have lived here for 50 years and wont go down there. Tons of friends here that are from mexico wont go there.
Wild animal park, zoo, Children's Pool in La Jolla, Soledad, Gaslamp, all great places to hit up.
What interests do you guys have? What kind of food do you like? Athletic? This is my hometown and I currently live here (I always come back), so I can really give you more info than you might want.
Also how about a price range per night it would be helpful? That time of year is a mixed bag for prices. Summer but kids are in school. I would drop $2000 and rent a beach house or condo for two weeks, but look for a reduced late season rate or some kind of deal.
