125 Junior class Golden State National race at you know where. I ended up third OA that day but holeshot both motos. Was my first and last time ever racing here............ Just sharing

1987 CR 125 ? Had the same bike back then. It's kinda strange to go into a bike shop now and see brand new 05,06,07, and 08 bikes still sitting on dealer floors, because in 87 Honda had sold every CR 125 and 250 by March 15 of 87. I remember having to drive all the way to San Antonio to get the last one in Texas. Great bike when I could keep it running, thanks for sharing.

Yep I loved that bike.

The race is as Carlsbad. Last time at Carlsbad before this pic was USGP of 73 or 74? When I was four or five. Now its gone.

I think number 62 may be Mike Chamberlain? He was a very fast pro a few years after this pic. Jeremy McGrath was also in this class that year but not sure he raced this race.

I remember in practice at this race trying to keep up with Mercedes Gonzalez to no avail. She was damn fast.

This was also when my dad gave me the choice to take racing seriously and do all the big races and try to be a pro. But I woud have to quit high school football(fullback for championship team) and give up the girls and make new friends.

I chose to not take it that seriously.

how I loved carlsbad! I tried to find my small teenage self in that picture, but if is 87, I 'd been an intermediate at that point. I cleaned the golden state and trans-cal the year before. I really can't member if there was any difference between the 86 & 87 CR from the front, so it's neither here nor there.


my last 2 times racing there in the mid 90s, a 4 stroke national and i'm pretty sure ahrma had a national there, but it was on some weird shortened track which was like running the short course at saddleback without the big hill or magoo doubles, or the international without the sandwash. :-(


I've got the same story as you as far as racing goes...I had to make a decision in 87 as a competitive intermediate, go pro and try to make a living or go to collage and earn one. well, I realized I wasn't good nuff, having a lot of friends who WERE.


but I did start racing again in the 90's which vintage started to get strong, as my dad still had a pair of can-ams in the backyard...but that's a whole other story!

Ya I sometimes wonder if I could have made it.

But then I see how some pros pretty much quit riding all together after they are are done. EIther because thier just tired of it or to broken up.

Well I'm racing today and am pretty sure I will be as long as I can sit on a bike. I can never get enough of it and I am never burnt out from it. Its what I do when I'm burnt out from the rest of life.
