I just talked to my friend whose family has owned a dealership for more than 40 years, and the only reason they are doing anything right now is because of used bikes and street sales (plus they have harley). It can't help, though, that he has $60,000 worth of minibikes in storage!

Do you honestly think that the motorcycle industry's 40% mark up on aftermarket products is a killing??? If you honestly think this there are 1000's of motorcycle dealers out there that would like your investment $$$ and gladly share this wealth.

Please do the math! I will make this simple for you.........a $10.00 whole sale part (often not including shipping to them BTW) is retailed at $14.00 now give it the 20% discount that so many who ride think they deserve ......that part just sold for $11.20 or a whopping $1.20 profit on their investment! Now that whopping $1.20 has to still pay for all of the employees you see running around.....that is why you will see so many shops closing their doors this year!

At Christmas I visited a 30 year old 4 line dealership in my home town that I worked at for 10 years and they have reduced their accessories inventory down 75% and their shelves that were once full of product were empty. The manager told me he had cut it down to $250k by not reordering things that sold.

People do not own motorcycle dealerships to make a killing. They own them because they love motorcycles.
Amen brother!
