good things do happen to nice guys
Although I never got to meet the Walkers I probably know more about them then they know about themselves LOL. My son started riding about a year and a half ago and since then all he has talked about was "Kevin Walker" (and RC)because he is somewha local to us. He has told me all about how many wins, how many titles and I think everything else about him.
So, About three weeks ago we went to the last race at Pro sport and all week long my son told me how he was going to get a picture with Kevin and ask him to sign it and then he was going to ask Kevin sign his trophy also."keep in mind we haven't even got to the race yet and we already are winning trophies"LOL.
So now we get to the track and finaly get to watch Kevin ride and every time he is on the track we have to go to the fence to watch and yes he rides just like we expected. Keep in mind that my son has been saying all weekend long that he cant wait to meet him and get him to sign his trophy. Well after my sons last moto he ended up with a 4th overall in 125 two stoke because he rode better than he has ever has in his year and a half of riding and when we went to get this trophy that was going to have KWs autograph on it along with all these pictures we have talked about.
Well lets just say that MR big (my son) clamed up like a little puppy going face to face with the worlds biggest Pit bull. I couldn't get him to go over and say hi no matter what I said LOL.
Long story short is ,He talked a big story of how he was going to go race and win a trophy and then walk right up to KW and introduce himself and then ask him to sign it and he chicken'd out big time.
Oh well atleast we got to see him ride and maybe he will get to meet him a the next race.
A couple of notes.
He has gotten faster since the mid 90's.
The broken arms were a little more serious than Tracy lets on.
He broke them both twice and had to have bone grafts and was out for 18 months the second time.
He showed back up when he returned with his bikes in the back of the most ugly old chevy pick-up and was soon winning again.
the most amazed I think I ever was watching somebody in the 90's was watching KW run the TT event at the mini-Os. He ran into those choppy limestone corners so hard it scared anybody watching.
He had the event wrapped up one year but with the his typical luck, his eyes glasses came apart during the race.
Even with his skills, the thing that is much more impressive is that the entire Walker family is pure motocross.
In this time of haulers and motorhomes that seem to get larger and multiply every year, it is so cool to see somebody show up in a nissan pickup that looks like something from the dust bowl migration and spank all the youngsters, and do it without cockiness and a bunch of swagger.

Tell Kevin that Danny Payne said hello. It is so cool to see Kevin still at it.
Of course I don't race or even ride anymore...had several back surgeries over the past two years...due to the good ole days.
It's been tough on me...but things are going well for me now...and have a beautiful wife and two great kids...that will NEVER RACE motocross...lol!
Tell him I said to take care of his body with good nutrition...
Old injuries have their way of coming back around.
