Team USA Announced
Words & Photos by Steve Cox

The 2008 Team USA Motocross of Nations team was announced today at Unadilla, and as many predicted, it's an all-Kawasaki team of James Stewart (MX1, captain), Ryan Villopoto (MX2) and Timmy Ferry (MX3/Open).

From right to left, Ryan Villopoto, Timmy Ferry, James Stewart, Team USA team manager Roger DeCoster, Monster Energy Kawasaki manager Mike Fisher and the AMA's Ryan Holliday.

It's the first time since 1986 that the team is comprised completely of riders on a single brand of motorcycle. In addition, Villopoto and Stewart are both veterans of the winning 2006 MXoN team that raced in England and they will both be returning to England (Donington Park this year), and Ferry is coming off of a strong performance (alongside Ricky Carmichael and Villopoto, who had a legendary performance) last year at Budds Creek.

Everyone knows how the spin on this will work.
Its a "team" race and whoever gets beat straight up plays that card.

I get the speed mobile updates texted to my phone and the link that was sent to me brought me to an article on speed.com where RV said he's hoping to end his lites career with a win and that this will be his last race on a 250f.

Exactly eagle....if RV loses..thats the excuse...if JS loses....thast the excuse.....when maybe......just maybe there is a possibility that both JS and RV and TF all agree that if they get in the lead then we will settle in and take first in our respective classes. So I see this race for what is REALLY is and not what its MEANT to be. It will be a race between RV and JS and NOTTTTTTTT the rest of the world. It wont even matter that TF is even there. Its not about the rest of the world, its only about if RV can or will beat JS or at least according to the people on this board.

It is a team race, so RV vs. JS there means nothing. RV can win his class without beating JS.

EOD?? SXi'madumbassracerguy?

from wiki...pick one..

EOD may refer to:

Explosive Ordnance Disposal, the disposal of bombs
End Of Day, a financial markets term
Electric organ discharge, electric discharge generated by the organs of animals
Esoteric Order of Dagon, a fictional cult in the Cthulhu mythos of H. P. Lovecraft
End of Data character or signal in computing

There is no "I" in team, it's a "Team" RC got beat by RV last year, but the "Team" won, "Comprende"?..

That would be nice to see RV and JS in the same moto. I believe that RC had given his gate pick to RV last year and that allowed RV to run away early with RC in tow coming through the pack. Not claiming it's an excuse or not, but if JS was running 20th or so, on the start because he gave his gate to RV, people should keep that in mind. It's a team event, sacrifices will be made and egos left at the door. Only if both RV and JS got out in the top 5 in the same moto together, would we be having this argument. No matter what, people should realize that JS is the capitan and will do what it takes to secure a team victory, even if that means finishing 2nd to a teammate.

No Mike Alessi? He should be on the team. I like Ferry, he's always a good choice but this year Mike deserves it more.

Team, or no team, RV beat the world on a 250F last year, so I wouldn't bet against him.

I agree but he would not have fit in with team Monster, err U.S.A.

I like RV, he's one of the greats. But there is no way he can beat JS at the moment. James is riding so smooth and fast now that it is obvious that he could kick it up a few notches.

And I do wonder if Mike would have been on the team if he had not gotten injured?

These ideas are just my opinion, but please take note that my opinion is always right.

I agree too that Mike should be there. If either of you 2 can come up with a magical cure and he is 100% by September then pencil him in.

If he was healthy I am sure he would be on the team.

It was psoted elsewhere from the Alessi newsletter or something, that Mike would not be ready and healed by Sept for that race. Are you saying we should send a rider that is riding 70% because he deserves to be there? Had he not crashed his brains out 2 weeks ago, he would have been selected to ride. Ferry has been there and can handle the pressure, plus he is riding awesome.

Based on last years race, our guys could race at 70% and still win against the Euros. We will win this year as well unless something major happens like a major crash or DNF.

It'll be interesting to see how they finish, but it's a team race, and they both know that.

Agreed, but we should not start out behind the 8 ball by sending an injured rider. If we are trying to spice things up, then lets send 3 lites guys or 3 privateers and see how we do, that would be interesting.

Well the team was ( and always is) finalized the Red Bud weekend. It was not decided on yesterday. Things have to be arranged before they announce it to the public.
When the team was finalized Mike was looking like he was out for a year at least.
Why take the chance on him now. Let him not have to worry about it this year and get ready for next season. Red Dog will be fine on the team.
Just think how bad ass our team will be next year..

I agree that at this point, Mike should not go. Whoever suggested that isn't right in the head.
