Would love to see the breakdown of what Mike Brown spent in 05 to do the nationals.
Had a few off the shelf PC built bikes and a funmover.

A semi with 2 250/450 guys was $1.5M + years ago, when Emig was doing strategic 3 racing. Things have easily doubled since then, fuel is getting worse by the day, and OEMs are bailing.

Bike support isn't what it used to be. A lot of teams went from 2 250/450 guys and added Lites, and the OEMs support thinned out. They don't increase the budget just because you decide to run Lites and add 4 guys and 12-18 bikes. Those you have to buy.

You can do anything you want, but you need LOTS of money and it needs to be from outside the same train. As people say, "everyone is trying to rob the same train."

Then if you find a new train and new $$$, the promoters want to take it from you or block them until they get their hands in the same pockets.

Good luck!

"He said we could ride on his team for free, but we had to use his gear and boots."
So let me get this straight...He could either ride the entire national series for free and possibly put in good enough results to get hired by a real team for next season, OR stay loyal to the ugliest helmet and gear in motocross and sit out the rest of the nationals. Yeah good call buddy...way to think things through. OMG

Priceless.

I dunno what happened to people this year, but it turned out to be the year of slack. I just now got a check for 2007 pics that took about 20 phone calls/emails and 4 months effort!

I was SO tempted to just drive my RV to their office and block the road and go inside and say "Pay or tow it" but it would have been more trouble than it's worth...

Mutt I know you think it's funny but Scott has literally spent 400K or more of his own money He has never made a profit or taken anything from WWH for himself.

He really has helped a bunch of privateers and lost a bunch of money doing it.

A used rig with a trailer ready tp go 750k.
Tools for the shop in the rig 100k
Team Graphics for the rig 25k
Gas, oil, tires Maintenence on rig 125k
Driver for the rig 35k
Bike, Factory kit suspension, motor mods, good wheels and parts + maintenance 75k per bike.
Mechanic 35k per rider
Race weekend= entry fees, hotel, food, plane tickets, rental cars 6k per crew memeber.

So with 1 rider 1 mechanic and 1 semi drive I am still at 1.7 mill or so. There are a lot of behind the scenes stuff that most people dont know about.

Questions.

Is that buying a rig or leasing? I would think that leasing would be a better deal or even something other than a full on 18 wheeler. You are spending more than half our budget on the rig. If you don't have James or Chad in it it's almost a waste. You'll never see the return on that.

100g's for tools?

Your race weekend estimates...........a little high. I know travel expenses and I know that 6g's is way to high, unless they are going to Europe every week.

This is a new team right? Are we talking Reed/James level riders??? If so I can believe that, but other than that.............Any sponsor would lose their shirt just on the rig.

P...yer team would suck with you at the helm. But we knew that...have a good dinner with the boys.

If that gear company is paying you 250k a year what would you do?

It can probably be done for less that people think. You could probably get dudes to ride for damn near free if you had great equipment and paid their way to the races, expecially guys in Europe that want to come to America. Give me Cody Cooper and Ham-bone and I'll crush most of the factory teams with WAY less than 3 million dollars.

I'd love to see where the $3,000,000 figure comes from.

So I guess you are doing a MX only team...

I run an Amateur team and I have put SOOO much money in and it is only a non-pro team. I pay for there Loretta Lynn's entry fee, All trentman racing races, money for sponsors product, sponsorhouse account (which is what you should start with), pit shirts, Graphics, bikes (to a point), The list goes on. It has helped having a dealer helping us. I have been looking for a partner. I was looking at racerx today and Jeff Alessi need a ride. If only I had Millions I would help him out. Owning and running a non-pro team is hard, I can't imagine a pro team.
