If you attended the event, do you think it was less noisy than past events?

It was a noticeable improvement, even trackside for afternoon practice wasn't an earsplitting deal like years past. Thought it does seem like some bikes (PC Kawis) are still louder than the others.
Under the covered seating area it was still too loud, but out in the open it was just fine. My ears didn't ring at all at night after the race.

Out next to the track it's definitely a lot quieter, even on this shot...

Though it may take a month or two to get all the muffler packing shrapnel out of my skin. Wink

Didn't even come that close to selling out. They didn't announce the attendance, but from going to a ton of angel games when those upper deck corners are open the crowd is usually around 40k, instead of the sellout 46 or whatever...

I was surprised to see the empty seats up there, A1 is normally sold out. A2 and A3 usually have those few open seats on the top

It didn't sound any quieter in the family section during the races to tell you the truth. I was still running my ear plugs but will say the bikes were definitely quieter in the pits.

Given Speed Channel's live coverage I wasn't the least bit surprised it wasn't sold out.

Yeah, with the way things are looking right now it's getting hard for a lot of families to justify buying four or five $45 tickets for the family to watch a race especially with how close to Christmas it was. My tickets were a 21st birthday present from my dad and I was able to stay with my mom in Santa Clarita instead of getting a hotel, otherwise I probably wouldn't have been able to make the trip from Phoenix for the race. Things are going to start getting really tight this year for most families, I wouldn't doubt that we see smaller and smaller turn outs all year, its just a reality.

I thought it was more quiet.
I usually stand in the same place (under the big screen near the wheel chair section) and could converse during the race and could at times even hear the announcer.
Some of the bikes still had a substantial bark compounded by the use of rev limiters that would make the bike backfire like a rifle shot.
Still overall I would say its better.
Phx SX will have a rep from the FIM on hand to observe the AMA sound test procedure. It will be interesting to see what he has to say.
