Would the Jeff Ward of today being 40 something years old, beat the Jeff Ward of yesteryear in the first SX races. I say yes because of modern techniques. I use Jeff because he is the only old guy still really racing at the pro level and he just kicks ass in the dirt on an SM bike still. I thinks he's faster now...

Your original, misguided question concerned a Novice today, not Jeff Ward.
