I'm thinkin this Muqtada al-Sadr guy might be a student of the vietnam war.
SO -The US starts it's troop surge in Iraq recently, meanwhile Muqtada al-Sadr tells his army to cease fire, the President and media tell the US citizens recently "hey were making real progress here with the surge, in fact things are going so well we may start drawing down our troop levels." It makes us feel a little better about a possible light at the end of the tunnel.
IMO once this happens, like the time just prior to the TET Offensive, american citizens want to give one more chance on this thing. Then BOOM Muqtada al-Sadr (north vietnam) puts all the cards on the table basically saying I just wanted you to think this thing was almost over and let you sell that message to your people. Now you know otherwise, and your strategic planners and governemt look like even more of a fool to your people (which i think lit an even bigger fire for US antiwar sentiment at home because the american citizens were done with being spun)
So here we are, Muqtada al-Sadr and his boys picked back up there weapons and re-ignite the violence we are seeing currently.
Was it Muqtada al-Sadr's plan to let the governemt get a little to confident and start spreading there message of success only to reverse all of that in an instant in hopes that american citizens would say -enoug is enough- were done get the **** outta there?
So are we done being spun? Or am I totally misreading a strategic connection between Muqtada al-Sadr and the Tet Offensive?

One of the things about Tet, is that it was a significant battlefield defeat for the NV/VC, but the images of fighting sapped American resolve regardless of who won.

Agreed.
I should have noted that I am not necessarily making a literal comparison
IMO reasons for going to war and the results of going to war seem rather ambiguous depending on perspective
Witness the highly disciplined terrorists on the offensive:
