For Jr's 85 BW.

Since I have just started back riding after a 4 year lay off I am not only out of touch with reality but also with the hot set up on tires. Heck I can't even figure out the number system. What was wrong with a 300x21 and a 450 x 18?
Anyways we are riding off road mainly and I would prefer a tire that will last over one that provides maximum traction.
We have a pretty broad type of terrain here in Ga, with everything from sand to hard pack on the same trail most of the time.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I like the new Bridgestone 404s and the 402s a close second. Both last long.

A bigwheel 80 (supermini) uses 19" front, 16" rear. Dunlop D739's or Maxxis Maxxcross-IT will be rockhard iron-wear tires.

I don't know about for 85s, but Maxxis ITs are great, long wearing tires.

Michelin starcrosses work great on intermediate - hard terrain for 85's.

I second that. Great long-lasting REAR tire. I've used a couple on most of the mx tracks in MI, sand, hardpack, intermediate. It works well in everything great on intermediate terrain. However, I think the front tire sucks. Very skiddish. Pairing IT rear with ST front is better.

A LOT THE 85 RACERS AROUND HERE IN MI USE THE STARCROSSES. BUT THEN AGAIN THEY PITCH THEM AS SOON AS THE SHARP EDGE IS GONE SO I HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG THEY WILL HOLD UP. :? MY FAV TIRE IS A DUNLOP 756. THEY WORK MOST ANYWHERE I RIDE.

X2

Older son just moved up to 125/250F, rode YZ85's for several years, little brother is on 85's now, and they both love Michelin Starcross, and I love their durability.

We've tried virtually every brand, and we always come back to Michelin.

Those things work well for offroad and loamy MX tracks, but if you have any hardpack they will start breaking knobs like crazy.

You had knobbies last time I was out...and 200cc's....and the home track advantage! I don't recall any "hurtin'"....

For the longest wearing tires, use the Dunlop 952 tires. They are the same design as the original 752 tires that we all used to use but they made the rubber harder. They are designed to last longer. They work well on most conditions except lots of mud. If I'm racing I switch to my Dunlop 773's for soft terrain or my Dunlop 756's for everything else. For long wear and practice, I use my 952's.

The longest wearing tires I've ever had were the Trelleborg tires. They are expensive and a real pain to mount, but they lasted forever.

Can't get 952's for a supermini.

I would suggest Dunlop 756's.

I put on a set of Maxxis on one of my bikes, and, although they do last long, they didn't seem to hook up, even in the groomed soft stuff. Maybe it was just me, but that's the impression I got.
