I've got a 1997 S10 (2.2) I managed to somehow break a piston in. I found a guy not too far from here with a 2.2 engine for sale that is in a 1996 Corsica.
From what I can tell from the sources I've found, this should be the same engine. I haven't found anything to tell me different is a better way to put it. I know GM changed the 2.2 in 1998, but it appears the prior few years (at least) are all the same.
Can anyone confirm this?

How about you just pony up for a new truck already, you cheap SOB. You've driven that poor thing into the ground. Just accept it is dead and move on.

Is fuel free where you live?
No gas is not free or cheap here. But what is that thing costing you a year in maintenance, after you stick a rebuilt engine in it? Are you getting that good of mileage to offset the the ongoing costs of maintaining an 11 year old vehicle? Not trying to bust your balls, just some honest questions.
I've been getting about 25 mpg @ 65 mph with one bike and everything needed for a weekend of racing. To me, that's worth keeping it a bit longer. As far as cheap goes, I am going to be cheap and buy a used engine. I'm not going to stick $1,500 into buying a re manufactured engine.

Think twice about that decision. 250,000 miles on a newbie. 50-70k on a used if you're lucky....maybe 100....maybe 5k.
I called them a couple hours ago. Thanks!!!
(It won't work.)

my 99 has been pretty good. Bought it 6 years ago for $5999 with 30k miles. Since then nothing has failed. Get about 24 to 26 mpg with a auto tranny and it loaded with weight. Only thing it needs is the gas gauge fixed. I just bought a rx8 so the truck can enter semi retirement. Within the three months I've owned the rx8 its already been to the dealer four times to get stupid problems fixed. Thats four times more than the truck ever went to the dealer. So much for japanese reliability/quality, and add to that every mazda dealer around sucks, but the car is awesome.
