Pneumatic valve engine?

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 2:31pm
I just read a story about Rossi and his new Yamaha ride. They mentioned a pneumatic valve engine. What's up with that?

As racing engine RPMs go higher the valve springs can't keep up and the valves can't close fast enough. Pretty old technology in car racing. [url:2p69vzoa]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumatic_valve_gear[/url:2p69vzoa]

actually it's old technology... the pnuematics can't keep up and they are back to srings with a desmo style return in F1.

try and keep up, <img class= " title="Wink">

that said, do you think the mx industry will simply skip over the pneumatic tech and go straight to electro or desmo springs as you have mentioned?

it seems f1 tech always trickles down to motogp, and then it eventually finds its way to mx. it seems that if theyve already found a better way, dirbikes may never see this tech.

Air actuated, eh? Hmm. I'll have to look at the links. Less reciprocating weight, that's for sure. I've read on the desmodromics, but dang, that's a lot of stuff.

Go 2-smoke. Much simpler. :D
